I greatly fear that the mines will be so neglected that Col. Weightman will not have a sufficiency of ores to keep his three cupolas constantly running. If this should be so, it will be a great damage to the entire district. U would be far better if the many rich men who are loafing aronnd this city trying to sell their'mines would return to the district and work them so as to keep all reduction works that may be put up, constantly supplied with the best ores the district cau pro- . , duce. ? There never was a better chance for miners to get rich than in this district. There are plenty of good mines here already discovered that the owners would be glad to give a good share of to have them worked. NoW, 'let the' miners come iu here and take contracts to sink on these mines for feet, and they v.IU be sure to get a good home stake by doing it. Every one who has tried the sinking deep plan in these mines, has made a big strike out of it, and there are plenty of chances left. , .. A DASTARDLT iFFAIR occurred near the saw mill, owned by Daniel H. Wells, on Sunday night last. It appear that a couple ofyouug English girls from this city were cooking for a camp of miners near this mill. Tne miners all left and came down to this city, leaving the girls alone for a few nights. On Sunday night last a crowd of about twenty galoots from about the mill, assembled at the house and commenced firing their revolvers into it. The anticipated attack had been known and before the firing commenced, who heard of from three urea the gulch the the to it, hurried to protect camp girls, arriving there about the, time the firing commenced, and at once unliin-beretheir artillery and turned loose on the ruffians. The only casualties so far reported are, one of the scamps slightly wounded by a pistol shot, and one who, while trying to escape, fell into the in the dark, and got a Mansard roof on the larboard sU: of his head, if head we can call it, for such omniums as his can only be made of cap rock and filled with very low grade ore. A Mr. Cramer, who arrived on the field of battle after the first grand charge of the valiant scallawags, exhibited great courage, capturing two of the scamps and scaring one of them so badly that .he walked all the way to Salt Lake City that night at the bidding of Mr. Cramer, with a letter to deliver to the owner of the camp. The ruffians made a second attack and were again forced to retreat, badly demoralized, the girls all thisime being hid beneath the bed tick. d A FCXXY he was making rapid flight through the Eagle Gate into Brighams harem. ISCIDEST Kirhm iu from of tlim. Rough uu the capitalists! They had heard of no Indian outbreak nor uprising of the Mormons ; they were very naturally nonplussed, and mortally frightened. They knew not what to do except to pray and as none of them could do that, they were in a horrible fix. They had no idea of what was going on, and self preservation became their crowning thought. From unreliable accounts we conclude that the ruling passion became strong in death, some of them seeking the shelter of friendly saw logs, others facing the shower of bullets like true heroes of Balaklava : another taking off a good overcoat to keep it from' being rained with bullet holes, as it was a borrowed coat. What presence, of mind in the moment of great danger . With a and a healthy Broad street Broker in the rear, they marched cautiously forward to a dire and unknown fate. Soon some of the assistants were hailed when they made themselves known' as neutrals and friendly to both belligerents, and they were allowed to pass through the fusillade unharmed, rejoicing muchly that tberr lives had been spared, their bodies unperforated with bullet boles, and the borrowed coat In condition to be returned as good as when loaned.
