In 1974 the Beavers fell to a powerful NorthSummlt squad In the quarter finals and dropped a physi -cal battle to South Summit in 1978. The Beavers have only missed the state finals three times since 1969. The Beaver defense shut out the Duchesne offense for three quarters, but the Eagles rambled for three TJl.s In the first quarter to hold on for the victory. Beavers offense started to roll In the second quarter when Shane Button and Rodd McMullln bulled down to the one yard line- Quarterback Del Myers punched in a T.D. on a keeper, then Button added two more points on his PAT run for a 20-- 8 Duchesne lead. Chad Blackburn scooped In a 15 yard pass from Myers In the third period, followed by Brett Christiansens reception for two more points. With Duchesne leading Beaver continued to pound out yard -age to the Eagle two yard line, but a costly fumble kept the Bea vers out of the endzone and out of the lead. The fourth quarter turned into a defensive standoff as neither team could muster a score. The Eagles used veteran quarterback Dave Norman to harass the Beaver defense rushing for 120 yards on 15 carries and scoring two T.D.s. Mike Reinhardt scored the other T J). on a short yardage play for the Eagles. Myers had 112 yards passing for the Beavers while Button and McMullln chewed up 119 yards on the ground.
