Show 1 By CRAIG PATTERSON North Sevier handed the Milford Tigers their first loss Friday night In a 34-- 6 victory over the Tibers. Lack of depth was the Tigers with just not enough problem secondary players to handle the Wolves wellexecuted passing attack. The Tigers got off to a slow start and never were able to regroup as North Sevier scored two early first quarter touchdowns. The Wolves scored on their first and second possessions of the ballgaroe. Christiansen then scooped in a 6 yard pass on a third and two play for Beavers first TJ3. The extra point hit the uprights, glancing off to the right, leaving Beaver ahead 0. Park City came back in the second quarter to sustain a drive, but the Beaver defense became serious when the Miners went for a first down on a 4th and less than 1 yard situation. The Beaver defense stopped the attempt near midfield. Myers then mixed up his plays, calling on McMullin, Button and Smith to move into Park City territory again. Button raced around the left side of his blockers and the Park City defense for a 45 yard TJ)., but a clipping call nullified the effort. Christiansen picked off a Miner pass on the Beaver 15 yard line late m the 2nd quarter, providing the Beaver offense another oppor- - tion for their league schedule next week as A1 Marshalls agressive squad rolled over Park City 26-- 0. David Labrecht raced 30 yards on the opening kickoff to give quarterback Del Myers great field position for Beavers opening series. Myers connected for 19 yards on his first pass of the night to Chris Smith, immediately moving the offense into Park City territory. Shane Button rambled 24 yards m two carries to the Miner 2 yard line setting up the Beavers for their first T.D. Rodd MtMullin received the call to penetrate the Miner defense but a fumble at the goal line left the Beavers scoreless. However, three plays later the Miners coughed up the football on their own 31 yard line giving the Beavers another crack at a scoring opportunity. Button opened the series with a 9 li-- 0 dotrjD P.0, tunity before halftime to control the football. Button scrambled for 15 yards on a 3rd and 15 play, then came back with 9 more yards in two carries. Myers picked up 8 more yards mobut a holding call ving to mid-fielon the next play pushed the Beavers back into their own territory. Myers then teamed up with Christiansen on two consecutive passes for 33 yards and 29 yards, moving the ball from the Beaver 32 yard line to the Park City 6 yard line using only 18 seconds. With 1:01 on the clock until intermission, Button bulled his way into the Park City end zone. Myers followed with a 2 point conversion pass to Christiansen for a 14-- 0 Beaver lead. Andy Anderson recovered a Park City fumble on the first Miner play after the kickoff, but the Miners came back to pick off Myers pass to end the first half. In the third quarter the Beavers foiled their own drives with several penalties, keeping them off the score board, but Myers and his offensive line (Ken Harris, Jimmy Carter, Kemp Barney, Andy Anderson and Jimmy Gray) came alive again to score two more TUs, both coming on 4th down plays. Chad Blackburn hauled in a Myers pass for 18 yards and Christiansen grabbed another pass from 5 yards out, escalating the score to 26-- 0 for Beaver. Both PATs failed. The Beavers travel to Kanab tomorrow night for an important league contest with the Cowboys. Gay Ion Springer was the Wolves offensive weapon catching two big passes, first to put the Wolves in scoring territory, and then Fdwards found Springer wide open on a 15 yard Touc hdown pass for the third T.D. pass of the ballgame. The PAT was once again good. The Ti Tirs went to the loc ker room down 20-- 0 with another half still to play. The second half looked to le a repeat of the first, as the Wolves went right to work against the Tigers erv tired defense But Mikel White came up with a big fumble recovery, to give Milford another chance to put some points on the board. But the Tigers were stopped short by the tough Aolf defen Sullivan tried a fike punt, to try to gpt something going and tried to connect with aron Maver, but the ball was overthrown orth Sevier took the all over and on the very next play Edwards ' 1 TRAPPED: With one Tigers arms around his waist and Ryan Koozer of North Sevier was trapped coming on fast, Hal North Sevier won 34-- 6 as they as he tried to skirt the corner. used the pass to break Milfords defense. Sullivan took the punt return bac k to the 35 yard line. But Milfords offense was still bottled up and were unable to come up with the first down Being forced to punt again, Sullivan got away a high kick and the North Sevier return man was unat le to hang on to it, and Aaron Mayer, showing excellent speed and hustle, recovered the ball on the Wolves 15 yard line. Ryan Wunderlich got the Tigers to the goal line where Sullivan took the Q.B. sneak in for 6. The PAT attempt by Florence was no good. On the kickoff Florences attempt for an onsides was no good with North Sevier recovering the ball on the 45 yard line. Three plays later on a fake field goal, it was Springers turn to throw to Edwards for the T . pass. The PT was good. Milford then got another chance to get something going but after three quick downs were forced to punt once again. North Sevier took the ball in good field position and were able to come up with yet another touchdown pass from Hardy to Johnson for the final score of the ballgame. With 2:00 minutes left to go in the ballgame Coach Barnes decided to give the second string a chance. The little guys consisting mostly of Freshmen, got some fine yardage on some very well executed plays. But they were about the only bright spot for the Tigers all night. The Tiger team Is young and should have learned some very valuable lessons from the loss they took. It takes eleven guys to make a no one player is going to team, make or break the team . You have to play together and as a team to be winners. Leadership is Important to a team, but It has got to be respected leaders. Everybody will have an off night. Lets hope this Is the Tigers last off night before they start league action In two weeks. The Tigers are Idle this week, which should give them extra time to prepare for a tough game with Kanab on September 28, for their first league game.
