After the war many other parts of the garden were added. Each of the nineteen countries represented there in the gardens are a direct result of the efforts of people from those areas of the day. These beautiful gardens were begun in 1 939 as a symbol of peace and brotherhood for all mankind and all countries. world. In each case a group of people coming from that country got together and raised the funds to build something that would represent their homeland. After raising the needed funds, these same people did the actual construction of their part of the garden. The countries that are Wales, by these different groups, the Salt Lake Parks Department .took over After the gardens were built the responsibility of keeping up the gardening work. These gardeners Japan, Germany, Denmark, Greece, China, Mexico, Brazil, Canada and India. IS are doing a wonderful job and flowers from all parts of the world t are thriving in each of the countries. The flowers many times are planted so as to make a design or to spell out words and names of countries. But the unique thing that attracts visitors to the gardens is the fact that each of the areas is represented by native architecture that makes each little area different. Norway is represented by a mermaid and Switzerland has a giant size replica of the Matterhorn. Have you ever been to the International Peace Gardens? Well, even if you have, take a minute some time to walk over bridges and through hedges of flowers to visit all those countries that are only a few blocks away. |
