Spurred on by the advent of 1 0 the easy-ridin- g speed sport model, ecological awareness, desires to be fit and mobile, or any number of reasons, bike riding is now said to be America's fastest growing recreational sport. With growth has come new traffic problems. For every honking motorist there is the thoughtless bicycler who pays no attention to traffic laws or conditions. It isn't unusual to see local riders on the wrong side of the street, traveling after dark without lights, or jockeying in and out of traffic without signalling. Bikes are regular traffic. They share the same rights and protection and are subject to the same laws as other vehicles. Aware of this, Salt Lake City is now considering a proposed system of bike routes. The system designates certain city streets as "bike routes."
