Citizen Input Salt Lake County Commissioner Ralph McClure in an t e r v ew with the Neighborhood News says he i n i favors strong citizens participation in county government but as an elected official he cannot turn decision making over to "appointed" people. While the commissioner is aware "that some people think they should have that right (to make decisions)" he says he "cannot delegate that authority" because of his responsibility to county residents at large. Pointing to his work with Model Cities and its Coordinating Council the commissioner says he has "taken no action without their presence." to He says conduct business any other way would be foolish for an elected official. Commissioner McClure says he has ''backed" the "recommendations of the Coordinating Council as much as I could. In an attempt to encourage more citizen input into county government the County Commission led by McClure as its chairman, is holding monthly town meetings in different areas of the county. The meetings are planned so that each area will host at least one meeting each year. FRESH MEAT -- FRESH The first town meeting was held in Magna in April. The next one is scheduled for the Holliday and Olympus Cover area on May 5th at a site to be announced.
