Show eliminating duplication of services. We can affect an increase in basic services while at the same Political Forum time reducing costs and holding the line on taxes. The suggestion has been made by government officials that we consolidate city and county functions and move into a form of strong mayor-council an effort to keep residents informed on key issues and important matters, the Model Neighborhood News is publishing n I Political Forum with 500 word statements from each of the candidates running for County Commission, and each of the candidates running for the State a Senate and House of in districts Representatives within the model neighborhood. Each of the candidates running in these areas were contacted by mail and phone and encouraged to submit brief statements for publication in the November 2 issue. Statements from nine of seventeen candidates are therefor being published in this week's issue and the names and addresses of the eight candidates that did not respond are included. Amendments and the subject of fluoridation were contacted and agreed to submit statements but such material was not received prior to deadline for this week's issue. Prior to the Primary elections, the Model Neighborhood News ran a two week series on School Board candidates in model neighborhood districts so we did not duplicate that information in this political feature. We urge you to study the candidates and the issues and MOST IMPORTANTLY, to go to the polls and vote on November 7. If you need information on your voting district, please call the Salt Lake County Clerk's office or the Model Neighborhood News, at Ombudsman. Anyone who is willing to attend meetings can be a voting member of a Model Cities Task Force, and anyone from the Task Forces can be elected to the Coordinating Council. Now any citizen of the in Neighborhood can help decide how Model Cities money will be spent. Of course, the Joint Board of Commissioners has the final word on which programs are Model we have a responsibility to follow citizens' priorities.
