Show REVIEW. November 25. 1965 A9 BUTTON BOX BY PAT CUMMINGS (Continued from page a 5) borrowed a holiday from the Indians (along with the land) and just took over an already- established pattern of giving thanks to the Great Spirit for a good harvest and plentiful game. The Indians bad feasting along with their thanks --giving ritual, and the Pilgrims even borrowed the menu. turkeys were a far cry from today's broad bird. Indian turkeys were probably wily, rangy, scrawny and tough symbolising the Pioneer spirit. Modern turkeys are raised on wire with feet never touching the ground. Their food is scientifically compounded, and it turns up at regular intervals, dispensed by a friendly hand. The welfare state turkey lives a happy life until It all disintegrates around the end of nNovember, when the same hand tha provided their food, provides their fate.
