Jul 8, 1965 Do insect free? you enjoy outdoor living, Yea Will Willi Amazing from MARY NEWS NOTES HOLLADAY GAIL STARK Sons Of Pioneers Sponsor Show Some of the most outstanding talent Utah has to offer was featured Monday evening, June 28, at the Highland High School, at a Show Boat Musical Festival and Banquet sponsored by the Sugar House of Utah Sons Chapter, Pioneers. AHEAD?, ZUT ffi? ar- the program, Preceding dinner was served to a large crowd of about 700 people in the school cafeteria at 7 P.M. The eveningss entertainment was staged around a realistic show boat backdrop, and the Salt Lake Chapter, Sweet Adeline chorus, under the direction of Jack Evans, opened the music festival and set the pace for the evening by singing melodies reminiscent of the river boat era. In keeping with the theme, the chorus members were attired In long dresses suggestive of those bygone years. V - VALLEY 'J ; 3 r 1 1 3 ! O' I 'jf i ; n ir n ' ' O Rejoice! n O It Acting as show boat captain and master of ceremonies at the event was Eugene Jelesnik, outstanding Salt Lake musician and Utah talent promoter. j . 13 .jIT-- 3:cn IK ZZ Xr Highlight of the program was an acrobatic dance by a of 15 agile young ladies froup Orem, Utah, called the Utah Rockettes. This group was the winner of Eugene Jel EVERY SHOE In the esnik s Talent Showcase finals held May 31, 1965, at the Highland High Auditorium with Ted Mack as master of ceremonies and won an award of $300 donated by the sponsor, South East Furniture Company. They are scheduled to appear on the Ted Mack original Amateur Hour Program August 15, and will also appear at the New York World Fair July 31, in front of the Mormon Pavilion, and elsewhere as directed by Eugene Jelesnik and supervised by Horace A. Sorensen. Margaret Classics, also from Bounti- ful and past region champions, sang several barbershop style numbers. The Salt Flats, a versatile foursome from Salt Lake, delighted the large audience for several minutes with their wit and musical talents. The evening was climaxed by the Salt Lake Chapter SPEBSQSA Chorus, directed rXir by Milt Christensen, singing several renditions which concluded the Musical Festival. Proceeds from the event will go to the Utah Rockettes to assist them in their forthcoming engagements in New York. Horace A. Sorensen personally extends his thank you to the Salt Lake Chapter, Sweet Adelines for their as- - ilonMiionCeiifer Also appearing on the show boat musical festival from the Talent Showcase finals was a musical instrumental group, The Contemporaries, and a girls' barbershop quartet Utah, The from Beaver, Mello-Tone- s, who have been invited to appear on Ted Macks Amateur Hour, and The Chevelles, alternate winners on the Talent Showcase, who sang several chords in the traditional barbershop fashion. The last portion of the program spotlighted the 1964-6- 5 Sweet Adeline Quartet Champions from Region 12, The Flaires from Bountiful. Eleven local builders have erected 14 model bomes to display the best they have to offer in the $24,000 to 4,000 class at 13th East and 56th South. In addition, 85 t hibits show the newest and best In equipment, materials and services for the modern home.
