I would not argue with that. Rather, I am amazed at the breadth and scope of the Milhaud composCraftsitional pallette. man par excellence, every form he touches is conceived and executed with technical perfection. His universality of Interest is evidenced as we ponder such contrasting works as Le Boeuf Sur La Toit and Creation of theWorld for example, with Pacem. to From such earthy The local Retrospect: scene was enriched during the past week by the presence of Darius Milhaud, one of the twenthieth centurys great musical minds. The French attended the composer American premier of his loftiest work to date in Terris, a choral symphony for contralto and baritone soloists, mixed chorus, and orchestra with text from the late Pope John XXIIIs Enclyclical of April 1963. The versatile, prolific Milhaud -- - cripple of a cruel type of arthritis for nearly three decades a standing ovation from the Tabernacle audience as he arose graciously, and painfuly, from his wheel-cha- ir in the forepart of the hall.
