Seniors: Three join Faculty changes at BY High this year include three new teachers and four teachers who are returning from sabbatical leaves. Mr. Lowell Thomson, principal, is also returning from a leave. In working towards a doctorate in educational f o u n d a t i ons, Mr. Thomson spent the second semester of last year attending classes and supervising student teachers at the University of Utah. Mrs. Faye Buttle, English and History instructor, spent her second semester leave at the University of Utah. She attended seminars and classes in working towards a doctorate. Mrs. Buttle also worked on and completed a text for Utah history. The name of the text is Utah Grows. It has a companion text which is an active study manual, and 57 associated tests. The book will be used in several Salt Lake schools, in schools in the Nebo and Jordan districts, and throughout the Provo City schools. At the University of Oregon in Eugene, Mr. Douglas Garbe spent a full year in obtaining a masters degree in mathematics. Mr. Garbe teaches physics, 8th grade science, geometry, and Algebra I this year, and feels that his leave has added background and depth to his teaching. Mr. Verl Allman and Miss Donna Turley also returned from full year sabbatical leaves from Zambia, Africa, and Detroit, respect-tively. the new teachers this year is Miss Barbara Jensen, replacing Miss Earlene Durrant in the girls PE Department Miss Jensen is a BYU graduate from Roy, Utah. Shecompleted her Among dent teaching at Dixon Jr. High. BY faculty; four return Hunter, originally from Idaho, came from AF High. He has also taught previously in Salem. Mr. Hunter turned down a football scholarship from the U. of U. to attend the BYU, from which he graduated. He has served an LDS mission and also served in the Air Force in Germany. Mis Hunter is married and has six children, four girls and two boys. Mr. Hunter feels that the band this year, although very small, has possibilities. Mr. Jerry Lund is an unexpected addition to BY Highs faculty. Mr., Party and dance end 'Hi Week 9 ' Seniors John Maas and Terry Fisher were voted Mr. and Miss Friendly at the Opening Social Center Friday, climaxing Hi Week. Class winners were Seniors Mary Valgardson and Greg Clark; juniors were Kris Apostol and Mike Brown; Sophomores Kathy Anersen and Fred Teich-er- t; and Fresmen Lesley Reid and Robert Bowen. Activities , of Hi Week started at the assembly Monday. Principal Lowell Thomson and Assistant Principal Wallace Allred discussed school policies and introduced student body officers. Tuesday was declared Blue Day; everyone was required to wear blue. Those students who did not comply were sentenced in Kangaroo court Wednesday at noon on the front lawn. Mr. Files was contracted to teach in the department but at the last Boyd -- minute was drafted. Mr. Lund was asked to teach at BY High but had already accepted a position at Provo High. However, Orem Jr. High had a leftover seminary teacher, which they sent to Provo High, thus freeing Mr. Lund to come to Scott Royall, Ralph Olsen, Jens Fugal, Ron Smith, Paul Hintze, Jim Innes, and Steve Cruze; Juniors: Dave Jacobs, Jeff Keith, DUave Porter, Phil Andrus, Brent Harmon, and Richard Reimschiissell.
