Show Forensic team b y l'f places thirteen for state meet $ & , ' ' r- - 7 k I v : It i Although the BY High Forensics Team came in third place at the Northern Division meet of Region Four, the Wildcat team has more members going to the state forensics tournament than any other division school. According to Coach Kenneth Bowthorpe, a total of 13 students will compete at the state meet, the most representing the school since it entered Class A competition last year. Eleven went to state last year. In Mondays division meet, five BY students qualified for state: Mike Young, Greg Duerden, and Jim Holtkamp in legislative forum; and Dennis Monson and Lynn Sampson in oratory. They will compete next Friday and Saturday in the state meet at the University of Utah. BY is taking the most debate teams possible to compete in the state meet four and that is half the number from the Northern Division. ; Qualifying last week were debate teams composed of senior teams Rick Gunn and Alan Wilkins, Larry Christensen and Roger Sheffield, LaDawn Anderson and Anne Peterson, and juniors Brent Ashworth and Sid Sandberg. Orem placed first at the division meet followed by Pleasant Grove, BY High, American Fork, and Lehi. Last year at state, Rick Gunn received a superior in extemporaneous speaking and Brent Ashworth took a superior in oratory. This year no one qualified for state in extemporaneous speaking. jf ri , . Thus far this will be the year that there were fewer assemblies and at least one cancelled dance. It will be the year that we almost got enough school spirit to go with the basketball team to the state tournament, not to be outdone with the fact that the yearbook almost had to be cancelled because of insufficient sales. Traditionally, the most exciting part of the year is yet to come. Seniors will be graduating, and the studentbody will prepare to elect next years leadership. This has been an exciting time in the past, but BY High has never been as dead as it is now. The hour is late, but there still might be time.
