Representatives Selected For Girls, Boys State (hree Recently two girls were selected from the Junior class at Brigham Young High School to attend Girls State. They were Claudia Keeler and Carol Ann Frischknecht. Claudia is being sponsored by the Provo Lady Lions and Carol Ann by the Eagles Lodge. The girls who are chosen must be in the last half of their junior year in senior high school, must have qualities of leadership, be of good character, have qualities of courage, honesty and cooperativeness, be in the upper third of their class scholastically and be a citizen of the United States. Girls State is held at Utah It is State University, June to educate young woorganized men in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. The delegates set up a city and county government and pass and enforce ordinances. Every girl will have a definite and integral part in the function of Girls State. Five of our B.Y. High boys will attend Boys State July 5th to 12th. Recently seven boys were interviewed by Mr. Floyd A. Wing to determine the final selection. These were: Kim Cameron, Douglas Young, Rand Packer, Roger Porter, Mark Riddle, David Whet-teand Darrell Danielson. As of press time the final selection had not been announced. 6. B.Y. Silver Sails Take Juniors to Dreamland and Prom In Annual Assembly Silver Sails" was the theme of the Junior Assembly on April 24. It featured a sailor who was shipwrecked on a dream island where he fell in love with a lovely girl and experienced the talent of the people on the Island of Shumway. The activity centered around the people of the island who were coming to the shore for a clam dig. They found a sailer (Kim Cameron) unconscious by his boat, which had struggled through a terrific storm. When he awakened he immediately fell in love with one of the lovely island maidens (Linda Craft). Entertaining the group while they ate their lunches were Sue Ann Elliott and Darrel Danielson singing the song I Can Do Without You. Janet Cowley, Gina Grow and Helen thank you is extended from the Junior Class and their officers to Mrs. Stoddard and Mr. Lindstrom for their help, and also to Claudia Keeler who wrote the assembly and worked hard to make it a success. Kanab was second with 35 points, 22 behind B.Y., and American Fork came in third. This was the first time that any one school has ever taken both the State Forensics and the State Interpretive Trophy in the same year. Students Attended Annual Model U.N. Among the 2,000 attending the ninth annual Model United Nations Assembly at the University of Utah on April 19 were 19 B.Y. High history students and their advisers Mrs. Julia Caine and Mr. Gary Penrod. The purpose of the Model U.N. is to provide the students with a first hand knowledge of the procedures followed in the United Nations, to show them what type of matters are discussed and to teach the students about the aims of the organization. George Taylor and Francis Rogers received an Excellent for their pantomime.
