When Captain Harold Christensen stepped up to receive the trophy of champions from the STATE CHAMPS J 4 tournament officials last Satur-nigh- t, it marked the end of a great struggle throughout three months of practice, games, sweat and strain by Coaches Dave Crowton and Owen Dixon anc twelve young high school athletes from one of the states smallest schools. Through twenty games ( these boys and coaches sought to win and came out with sixteen victories and four defeats. As was, shown in tournament play, the Wildcats worked as a team and although facing disadvantages of heighth, they made up for the difference by controlling the ball and great passing anc team play by all players. This point demonstrated what a great coach did to build these boys into the team that came out on top; the many hours of practice that finally paid off in a state championship. But coaching alone did not prove the winning factor; for without the honest fighting spirit of the twelve boys who represented the blue and white, nothing would have been possible. It was a combination of the two along with a close relationship between player and coach that The tournament is over now, brought a fine team, a fine coach and a fine school, the greatest but looking back, it was one of glory they could receive in high the most successful in the history school basketball that marked of the state. the Cinderella Wildcats as State A record final night crowd of Champions. 6,000 fans were jammed in the Freedom Train to Visit Provo On March 25 the Fredom Train will arrive in Provo. High defeat Beaver for the State Class B Championship by a Score of - 27. I feel that the players of our high school really hit their peak for the tournament and did a grand job as a team. No matter what man Dave put in the game, he did as good a job as that one that left. A record was set, I think, in that they defeated the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams to win the Championship. These were Beaver, Gunnison and Wasatch. 33- CLUBLICITY Fauvines Great plans are being developed for this week in honor of our grand team and their shining victory, that of winning first place in the state B tournament. Among these plans is an assembly scheduled for 11:00 a. m on by Yolanda Lettermen No need for comment! Notre Maison The annual F.H.A. convention will be held Saturday, March 19, in Salt Lake City. Nine delegates will be present from our chapter here at B.Y. high. The Notre Maison club is also sponsoring Joanna Hobbs as a candidate for election to one of the state officers. Hugging the trophy for dear ife, Chris was all but mobbed by his teammates in an atempt to see the glitter and just touch the sign of victory. Amidst all the confusion time was found for the entire team to say hello, mom, we won, over tne radio. Picking Coach Dave Crowton up and carrymg him off the floor on their shoulders, the team went down into the shower room. The trophy of gold is actual size, mounted on a white platform, with the team members names inscribed on it as State High Schol B champions. Next to the actual trophy itself, coveted most is the ball which was used in the winning game, autographed by all the players. The celebration of victory was carried over that night, with the team having a steak dinner and all the trimmings, while others of the high school yelled with what voice they had left to let Provo and Salt Lake know B.Y. High had won. Sunday, the entire team and and Dixon Coaches Crowton broadcast over station KCSU for fifiteen minutes.
