THE YLDCAT- Thursday, May 25, 1944 Blue Party Wins School Elections Rea Robins to Many in June Elevated to the highest student-bod- y position by recent elections, Dean Ashworth, popular junior student, will preside over student activities during the coming year. Marian Jeanne Merrill will become student body secretary with Earl Johnson managing athletic Rhea Robins, newest member of the faculty, will wed Doug Davis Monday, June 5 in the Salt Lake Temple. Miss Robins joined the faculty last fall and has taught junior and senior high school physical education as well as junior high school health classes. She is noted in Provo for her dancing and has directed the dancing in the junior and senior high school graduation programs. For the past year she has been sponsor of the school pep club, Fauvines. A native of Scipio, the bride-to-b- e is a graduate of the Brigham Young university being senior class affairs. In a election campaign, the entire Blue party proved victorious. Hottest battle was in nip-and-tu- ck the presidential race where Mr. Ashworth defeated White Party candidate Alan Hansen for the post. Miss Merrill won over Leeta Cullimore with Mr. Johnson defeating Grant Johnson in the athletic manager race. Phil Christensen Killed In Action Flying 1942-4- Argentina Talk Given by Durrant Showing why the Argentine people have not been as cooperative with the U. S. as they might have been, Stanford Durrant, graduate of the BY and returned missionary, spoke to the Problems of American democracy and senior religious education classes on Argentina. Mr. Durrant pointed out the differences between the trade alliances of Argentina and Germany, and Argentina and America. He stated that the Argentine and the German governments had been able to find means .of trade where the U. S. and the South American nation had not. This, he said, was the reason for the strained relations between these two American countries. Stanford graduated from the BY high in 1939. While here he was prominent in all school activities. B-1- P-3- Dramatic Club Holds Initiation Last Wednesday evening, May Troop Number 154 of the National Thespian Dramatic Society for high schools held their annual spring initiation ceremonies for the new members who have completed their requirements needed for students desiring membership in the Thespian club. Sech director, Morris M. Clinger and President Ariel S. Ballif took charge of the activities of the evening. The new members voted into the club are: Bette Brailsford, Norma Robertson, Alma Snow, Mary Lou Henninger, Wanda Brown, LaDeanne Anderson and June Greer. After the very formal candlelight ceremony was completed and congratulations had been made, Alumni members attending the initiations and new members were given a banquet in the cafeteria of the high school as a climax to the evenings events. 17, Philip James Christensen, 21, of Provo, was killed in action over Italy, according to a War Depart-me- n telegram received by his father, Dr. H. D. Christensen of Provo. Lt. Christensen is the second son to be killed in this war, his brother Don died in his final training flight at Lemoore Field, California less than a year ago. Lt. Christensen had flown 34 missions in the Mediterranean theater of war as a pilot and of a 7 and three or four missions as pilot of a He was bom at Lehi March 14, 1923, the son of Harold D. and Catherine Needham Christensen. Educated in Provo schools he graduated from the BY high school and in December 1941 enlisted for aviation cadet training. In July of 1943 he graduated from Turner Field at Alban, Ga. and was awarded his wings and ranked as a flight officer. He went overseas in the latter part of the summer of 1943. He flew in the 7 flying fortress until November 1943 when he was given 8 training and commissioned a second lieutenant. His mother, Catherine Needham Christensen, died June 18, 1941. His brother. Aviation Cadet Don Christensen, crashed May 20, 1943. He is survived by his father of Provo and his sister, Mrs. Sidney A. Boyle, of Berkeley, California. Phil graduated .from the BY high in 1941.
