He and his wife, Tammy, have lived in Vernal since 1981. Eugene Gifford receives outstanding soldier award Eugene V. Gifford of Vernal is the latest recipient of the Charles A Levie Award given by the National Guard The award was originated by the Vernal Unit m 1984 and was established to honor noncommissioned officers for outstanding service to the unit. The Levie award is named for Charles Levie who retired from the Vernal National Guard Unit in March 1984 Fellow officers said that Levie was an outstanding soldier and was an inspiration to other members. Gifford has been with the unit since December of 1983 and always exhibited an interest in the unit and fellow soldiers. He is willing go the extra mile to make sure operations gathers in the hallways outside the cells to and new Christmas carols. Mrs. Reed (Julie) Hansen and JoAnn Gray who is the accompanist for the choir, joined the students in the choral presentation. Sheriff Stewart met with the students as they prepared to leave the jail and expressed his appreciation on behalf of the staff and the inmates for the choirs willingness to share their Christmas spirit. Hansen said his group was by the experience and gratified would accept another invitation to sing at the jad if offered The choir was escorted by Sheriff Arden Stewart and a number of the jail staff and County Sheriffs employees for their performance. Repairs completed at Vernal area pool Necessary repairs have been completed on the dehumidifier at the Vernal Community Swimming Pool, but the temperature of the water is not warm enough for use by patrons As of Thursday the temperature at the pool was only 80 degrees and it needs to be a few degrees higher before patrons can use the pool in any comfort The temperature of the pool water increases approximately two degrees per day and staff are hoping to have the pool ready to reopen Friday The pool closed Thursday.
