Monday, begin Practice will November 18 at 3:05 p m. for Uintah High School matmen and hoopsters. Uintah's wrestling team, which pocketed its 16th state championship in 1985, will be coached by Ed Johnson. The Utes have won state titles in 1958, 1959, 1983 and 1985. The Uintah Utes have only three starters back from last years team in Kyle Smuin, Darren Johnson and Richard Horrocks. Johnson placed third last year at 105 pounds and Smuin captured sixth at 98 pounds. Horrocks competed in the state meet 1968-197- 1975-198- We started conditioning sessions, Monday and had them work on agility, running, strength and speed exercises. Regular wrestling practice will start November 18. We will run in the morning and practice in the aftersaid Ed Johnson. We will noon, start out on the basics and touch everything and go from there. Some wrestlers worked out on their own last week prior to practice on November 18. Many matmen played racquetball, lifted weights and put in a great deal of running. One wrestler, sophomore Mike Mc- Curdy remarked, I play racquetball to get in shape for wrestling. Rac quetball helps to get the legs into shape and in good condition. Another matman, Derek Dickson said, I do running and lift weights to get in tip top shape for wrestling. Wrestling is all Ive ever done. I started wrestling when I was real little. I started football this year as a sophomore. The Uintah Ute annual Wrestle-off- s Meet will be held Monday, December 2 at 7 p.m. and the first meet of the year will be against Union High School of Roosevelt, December 4 in Vernal. Varsity action will begin at 7 p.m. and junior varsity at 5: 15 p.m. Uintah will defend their Steamboat Springs Invitational title in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, December The Utes have won the tourney nine out of the past ten years. It also gets our athletes back to playing basketball again. We also use the program to look over our seniors. We have six teams with one senior on each crew. Uintah beat Wasatch in Heber City last year. The Utes also beat Union, Duchesne, Mountain Crest and Rangely last season and had a number of close region ball games. UTEP pulled off the shocker of the decade when they defeated Brigham Young University, but UTEP, which has lost two games in a row since its upset win, just made the Cougars mad as the BYU team has gotten even with a 59-- 0 win over Wyoming, November 2 and a 44-- 0 win over Utah State, Saturday in Logan. Robbie Bosco passed for 220 yards and two touchdowns in half a game. Tommy Tuipulotu, Vai Sikahema and Lakei Heimuli rushed for a com168 and three bined yards touchdowns. BYU led at halftime, 24-- 0 and rolled up 407 yards total offense. Utah State had 41 yards total offense at the end of the first half. The Cougars benched their starters early in the third quarter and finished with 600 yards total offense. Utah State had 133. Bosco opened the game up by throwing a 7 yard touchdown pass to Mark Bellini. David Miles pocketed a second quarter touchdown on a 36 yard pass. New Mexico added a touchdown to tie up the game, but Erroll Tucker returned the kickoff for a touchdown. New Mexico rallied but Utah to tie up the game at led 4 at the half. New Mexico overcame the Utah lead and gained a one point advanwith 9:46 left in the third tage of quarter, but Utah added a 55 yard field goal by Andre Guardi and three minutes for a touchdowns in 6 lead.
