One option many retired Americans are looking into: planned communities. Betty Condie Utah Education Association by Kyle kneeled on a chair in front of his daddys home computer and punched the correct keys to answer the simple addition problem on the screen in front of him. He was absorbed in a program his daddy had developed just for him. When he got the answer right, a message on the screen said, Way to go, Kyle. Though he couldnt read the words, he knew what they meant because he knew the configuration of the message. This incident illustrates two important things about children and learning: (1) Children want to learn at a very young age and can if given the right mix of motivation and tools. (2) Modern technology is one key to innovative teaching and learning. Encouraging news for parents is that a new vaccine has been developed that has the potential for significantly reducing the number of cases of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease in the United States Most recent estimates are that in 200 American children will contract Hib disease during the first five years of life Although the Hib bacteria are commonly found in the nose and throat, under appropriate conditions they can enter the bloodstream and cause serious diseases. The most common and lethal of these is bacterial meningitis (inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord), which affects 60 percent of those children who contract Hib 1 disease during the first five years of life. Epiglottis (inflammation of the elastic cartilage at the back of the throat that closes to protect the airway during swallowing) accounts for another 20 percent of Hib disease annually The remainder of Hib diseases include pneumonia, septic arthritis and cellulitis The new vaccine, licensed vaccine designed to protect young children against serious and potentially life threatening infections from the bacteria, Haemophilus influenzae type b. $1.19 Rubber Masks Vampire Kits Glow In the Dark Cream Masks Costumes I, manufactured by Praxis Biologies, Rochester, NY, and distributed by the Mead Johnson Nutritional Division stimulates the body to produce antibodies.
