Proceed ing on his journey again, and becoming angry and dizzy, he seemed to be entangled in an extricable labyrinth of telegraph poles, which led him to make a general speech. Gentlemen, you are not doing the fair thing. You do not give a man a fair chance. You run from one side of the street to the other, right in my way. Just then he met a friend, and taking him by the hand, he said There is a procession going along this street, and every man is drunk; they have been running against me all the way from the club. I knocked one of the fellows down, and one of them knocked me down, and then a lot of them got around me, and I believe they would have licked me within an inch of my life If you had not come to the rescue. Let us get out of this street before the procession comes back, for they are all drunk. Adorn Your Homes. . One of the liest things about the Grange movement is the effort to make the American farmer that his house Is not a tent in the dert, but a home, and should make home agreeable. It is a strange fact that the nearer one comes to a city the more delightful he finds the gardens. The fact is that the denizens of the city appreciate the pleasure afforded ty ivy and shade . trees and flowers, while the farmer does not. He looks upon his land as something to scrape a living from, and chops down the growing shade trees for cord wood. With a very few days extra trouble each year, our farmers could live in houses embowered by roses and evergreens, and surrounded with flower garden. past year happy one to mo. He considers the Palace the perfection of the hotel system, and that its general plan embodies every possible advantage of light, ventilation, security and convenience. The proprietors have determined to avail themselves of an improved plan for the grand staircase offered by Mr. Guyer, which will be a feature of the hotel surpassing anything in the United States. The grand staircase, with the lobby, galleries and balconies for bands of music, will include an area of sixty by thirty-on- e feet. The work will embrace a vast amount of ornamental finish in California woods, and the finest mechanical skill and richest material the country affords will be employed in its construction. The work on this great enterprise will keep the main body of the mechanics employed for many months to come, and it is intimated that additional building projects contemplated by the same parties will maintain an unditnin-ishe- d demand for lalor for at least a year longer. .San Francisco Nature, magnificent nml grand, Thine, Is the mighty (cower, And seeiDg through itualure'a God, We worblu p uni uiore.
