G N This Fourth Annual Uintah Basin Industrial Convention or U. B. L C. is falling just about the middle of the fifth crop season of the Associated Bee Hive Seed Growers and J. G. Pppard Seed Company Cooperating. t fb. t t The Associated Bee Hive Seed Growers and the J. G. Peppard Seed Company cooperating produce and handle approximately seventy per cent of all this alfalfa seed. They have made the industry and they are maintaining it on hiph standard I I The U. B. L C. stands for social, intellectual, industrial and economic advancement in the Uintah Basin. Since most of the people of the Uintah Basin can leave their work for only a few days at a time, the U. B: L C. "must be crowded into three days dealing chiefly with big general problems. They are all big days, of course, for all of us. The Associated Bee Hive Seed Growers and J. G. Pappard Seed Company Cooperating believe in progress too. They represent one of the particular industries that of producing alfalfa seed. They started in to build and maintain an alfalfa seed industry in 1822. At that time the Uintah Basin was probably producing about one million pounds of alfalfa seed per year. This cooperative scheme made up of Seed Growers and land owners on the one hand arid a big seed company on the other had as its motive the production of vast quantities of extra high quality alfalfa seed. The fanners had the land and usutlly alfalfa already standing. This alfalfa itself had the merit of being descended from early Utah plantings that had withstood the test of time, drouth, cold etc,, since alfalfa first came into the United States. The J. G. Peppard Seed Company had forty yean experience of cleaning and selling alfalfa seed and a big market established. of the country They knew the kind of seed the markets demanded. Exhibit The Peppard Seed Company booth at the U. B. L C. aims to show results obtained by individual seed growers on their own farms a little alfalfa seed fair with no prizes bnt with lots of judging by the growers themselves. These growers are proud of their exhibits and justly so. Weed Eradication The Sweet clover and other impurities in most fields are being chopped out pretty fast these days. Every seed grower not only wants to turn out a highly marketable product bnt he also wants to live up to his professional pride and turn out the best possible product. He has a reputation to maintain or improve. It is this spirit which has made Uintsii Basin Aalfalfa Seed famous in the short space of four years. Help Maintain the Market A great many growers are coming to ns to raise a little money on their crops. On the other hand we have a lot of money invested in seed bought last year and not sold this spring on account of unfavorable planting conditions. Every grower wants a good price for his crop this fall. He can help ns to get it for him. If we lend money we must either sell something, take the money out of the business, or borrow it for yon. We are trying to sell the alfalfa seed we have onjiand at a fair price for fall planting. Thus it will be used up and out of the way of the new crop. The proceeds should be available in time to help harvest this seasons crop. If on the other hand this seed was dumped on the market at any old price it might establish a low price level for this seasons crop. We know -- on will help us by waiting just as long as possible to ask for money, not only because we know you believe in cooperation. but because you want to get the best possible price for your crop this fall. We are mighty proud of the crops in the Basin this year.
