Show The Utah Statesman Friday - f I- Karr USU students mi: cap by Ben Lass “I could have danced night” all Oh excuse me What I meant to say was that I could have listened all night to the captivating Gary Karr bassist His brilliant artistry world-renown- Wednesday night in the Chase Fine Arts Hall was the highlight of a dual performance by the USU Symphony and Chorale The evening began with the Chorale directed by Marshall Hill performing five works from Gibbons Vittoria Mozart Duru-fl- e and Chorbajian in that order All of the pieces were sung in acapella except the Mozart which was accompanied by a few string instruments from the orchestra One was truly amazed by the clarity and pitch control of the Chorale in spite of the fact that they were not accompanied The Chorale was on top of its music and showed it was among the best of top rate performers But the evening really belonged to Gary Karr Karr began his performance Wednesday night with "Concerto for Contrabass and Orchestra” by Domenico Dragonetti His performance was flawless but it was the element of humor that delighted the crowd Karr made a slow passages more entertaining by bill Cary Karr showed Wednesday why he is a distinguished night's FAC audience internationally known musician uc:uiftsasuf4susaAsasaAsasa(tsusufaasaftsusuftuisu c 9 9 M Following Karr's performance j±r t a quarter of the audience left the fas Arts Center However thete people mksri er t ( " an excellent performance by the UZU S phony The orchestra played Variations Opus 36" by Edward a British composer bom in the Victorian ’i ' This piece was dedicated to many ef IT friends and contains four movements: Andante Variations 1 to 14 and Fine!
