Show Religion questions demand fast replies Ronald banners claim that L’SU is breaking state and federal laws by practicing religious favoritism at first seemed to have substantial backing But university officials as would be expected denied the allegations This leaves USU at an impasse Nobody has seriously considered the accusations Lanner brought forth They need to be investigated right away Utah bv virtue of being predominantly Mormon is open to criticisms of religious prejudice more than any other state in the country The questions raised here is: Are those criticisms made because of fear or reality? Testing one of banner's claims we sent several envelopes without stamps to the Institute through the university mail to see if they would be delivered illegally as banner once did They were rejected and returned for postage as required In fairness to banner it should be noted that after a week of investigation into this story the university's awareness may have been awakened to the potential problem It is easy to ask an arsonist for help in putting out a fire but his efforts would not help Just as easily USU could pul its own people on a committee to investigatebethese subthreats to the university but the answers would of a to pyramid questions ject A third party which is accountable to the public must check into the allegations If the allegations are discovered to be unfounded and the university officials are right the public will be reassured that USU has the separation of church and state guaranteed by law And if Lanner is found to be right swift changes can be made These will return the guarantees of education that USU may be missing through ignorance or on purpose non-biase- lETTERS d Urartians gave up their chance Prosperity makes friends and adversity tries them Anonymous To the editor THE UTAH STATESMAN USPSSKM3 Jus Suckling Witty Cora! warm associate wtv Soft HtMricks assign wtw Baaaa Whte 01 manaqv Jana Rnows Oudtey adrarasmg manage copy Wtv Bob Comett pnoto assistant Vic Vatwieus production m anapv Moray Anderson assistant production Wayne Mar urn rarity Mtv MaOery emtrtannenf Tam Comesay lOorts wtor wtv Wue Morgan wry wtv Gray Hughes an canous Wtv Sharon Anem raeurnng sections Stan SaJt pnoto Wtv wtv Larry ad THf UTAH STATESMAN is wntten State Urarar wtw By Jfudants at Utan sty editorial opinions are soWy Most at me wranai Board and mose antes artn sgnW articles and do not neceuaniy reflect me amnions of Utan Stale umrarsiry v ASUSU LETTER POUCV The Wtv reserves me right to wt refuse v print any let Mr Ait lertes must Be typeanttio on a BS character Anespace and Be umiWd to BOO rrords v less They must Be signed vm a name student numev and pnone hum Be Bare taciJty advtsar UTAn AtESMAN is puBAshed tn eehfy during ma school ye cscept dunng trials neens and school tOMtays mciudmg Quart Breaks Veteran's toy hokday Day holiday Thanksvmg Presidents' Day hokday and Memorial Day Wday ara school holidays THE OFEICES are m room 3tS Taogart Student Canter Business el tees room 317 EQITORIAL SECOND CLASS Utan S4321 mkng pad at Logan situation as well as other situations that have developed in Iran I have I we disturbed by the cancellaoften asked for references of untion of the scheduled debate on the biased sources of information situation in Iran As an individual published in English by third parwho has tried to maintain an objecties tive view on this subject I was The response has been totally disappointed by the failure of both negative and has usually been ac- sides to be present as srehduled In any debate I realize that there must be representaUves of both sides present hence the cancellation The moderator of the debates staled to the audience that the reason the Iranian representauve declined to appear as scheduled was that the media had previously distorted his views exremely and consequently he fell nothin further could be accomplished from extended discusssmn The slated reason representatives declined to appear raises serious questions as to the defenisdity of this position I hope this was not the reason fur the reluctance to appear The failure of another individual to come forward as representative of the Iranians at the spur of the moment when the offer was made by the moderator should not be taken as a sign of weakness of fear Perhaps the reluctance of members of the audience could be attributed to inadequate preparation and perhaps to a hesitancy berause of language problems While discussing the current ’ imed by a dismissl tea news media s buW to lability leaves me the the validity of what uals have aad or a LII kav nroduetft Lawns are a dying breed at USU concrete To the editor Grass What a malicious malignant menace it is Iet s stamp out this vicious weed Literally I can't understand why it was put here in the first place We're already doing a very good job at eradicating this unsightly undesirable plague Last year we succeeded in wiping out the lawn directly in front of the library In its place now rest massive slabs of concrete bike racks (a good ideal and those little cement tripping -excuse me - stepping stones (the little cement tiles with grass in the crarksl These cute little tiles not a bad idea when they're laying in the same plane are also being placed in corners all over campus and even between trees where we ground the grass into oblivion campus nur next target " there oWt fry and the bus re already doing crisscross the P even cropping Iks Sidewalks?
