Show OPINION Pedestrians’ safety has been neglected Although Tuesday is the last day of the deer hunt in Utah another type of hunt continues on campus Unfortunately this quarry doesn't even realize that its safety may be endangered or know who the predators are Being a pedestrian at USU is a hazard Each time you take a step off the curb into the crosswalk you are taking your safety into your own hands Although crosswalks are suppose to safeguard the pedestrian from oncoming traffic there is no absolute protection According to Logan Police a Utah law states that motorists must stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk Apparently most motorists either are unaware of this law- or they choose to disregard it Another risk for pedestrians is the poor street lighting around campus If motorists can barely see the road then undoubtedly they can barely see a person in a crosswalk Two weeks ago a lady rtding her bicycle at night on 4 th North and 7th East was hit by a truck because the driver of the truck couldn't see her With most traffic being channeled to the periphery of campus these risk areas should be made safe for the pedestrian The ASUSU Executive Council has passed a resolution which states that the university administration city and state officials should investigate the possibility of installing a traffic light system at the intersection of 10th Noth and 8th East Pedestrian and auto traffic increased at this intersection because of the shuttle bus parking lot This resolution is a step in the right direction but more needs to be done A comprehensive study of campus traffic by the university administration and city should be made and the results should be carefully weighed - Stop! Men are seldom blessed with good fortune and good sense at the same time —Livy Shuttle bus purchase ludicrous To IW Editor A few weeks ago Stewart L’dall spoke here at Utah Stale Universi- ty and his words still echo His statement that “Americans live in a make believe world” is typified by the administration of USU It seems ludicrous to me that supposedly wise and prudent men would start a program such as the shuttle bus run it for one month and then seek funding for it Because such men live m make believe world the solution is simple as always charge the student an additional fee Why not? Don’t all students use the shuttle bus? I don’t think so It seems to me that the shuttle bus does not meet the needs of all the students at USU I believe that the needs it presently meets are not realistic ones Lets at the situation: one bus route runs from the stadium puking field up to SC parking lot This is a distance of four blocks less than one half mile It doesn’t seem to me that a half mile too far to walk It takes me less than IS look minutes It’s aad that a person cannot walk a half mile to school What is more sad and frightening is their lazy ness is being promoted by the administration of USU The possibility that it may be at my expense is appalling to me Might I suggest that those who ride pav Critic obsessed with rmmmaries To the editor: Reilly time to get your mind off boobs and concentrate on reviewing movies Your obsession with mammary glands prevented you from recognizing fine performances by Candice Bergen and Jill Clayburgh in what was basically an entertaining movie Next time do movie-goer- s a favor and stay home with your pornographic snapshots Jodith Yaadoh TATESMAN USES 532 640 Chris Schenck Reader supports chicken To the editor: Thank you Spinner for expressing my opinion on the matter exactly I agree that the KVNU THE UTAH' As the saying goes “If you want to dance you got to pay the band" The only energy we are conserving around here is our own chicken is definately funnier if not cuter than Ladell Andersen The decision being made without student consent was a mistake: I know the KVNU chicken personally and this individual is bummed about not being able to attend the games as the chicken He was asked not to make any more appearances at Utah State without a justifiable cause It is unfair that we as students had no say in this very important decision We need the KVNU chicken back and maybe the USU athletic director should switch to veal if he doesn't like chicken The KVNU chicken has more spirit for Utah State than it needs— let's get our fine feathered friend back!
