Even though the bills passed and other actions taken during the mock session of the senior legislature are not state laws, they do express the concerns of senior citizens and become the guides for consideration by the regular legislative session. Davis County senior citizens who have agreed to participate in the event include Oscar Gold- berg, Bountiful; Robert Carmichael, Roy; Joe Jensen, Syracuse; and Vere Fairchild, Centerville. This method is a live learning experience for the senior citizens, said Glenn Johnson, coordinator of the event. It should help them to become more active in state leg- islative affairs." A main object of the session, Johnson said, is to help the se- nior citizens become more aware of what goes on during the legislative sessions so that they can work more closely and effectively with the state legislature in getting laws enacted for the benefit of the people of Utah." House speaker for the mock session will be Justin Stewart ' who was selected for that position by House members during the session last summer. The Senate President will be selected by the senators at the beginning of the session.
