Ms. Maddens exhibit consists of silk screens and block prints, and will be visible in a monthlong show at the BAC Gift Gallery, of which the open house on Sunday is the festive opening. Ms. Maddens works are, among others, landscapes and still lives, executed in silk screen prints. They can be called in design, but traditional in consemi-abstra- i ANNETTE LEISHMAN ct For example, Ms. Madden takes a Southern Utah landscape, assesses its color scheme, then applies the technique of silk screening to her subject. The result is a traditional subject (the landscape), transformed into art vision and a by a technique which lends itself to abstract implementation. Ms. .Madden prefers the close-colharmonies rather than a wild array of tints; she produces works which show gradations of one color. Her view of the Great Salt Lake and the mountains behind it, for example, is done in gradations of blue, whereas another view of the lake consist of the reds, all the way from pink to purple.
