Hosking came to Bountiful from California with his parents and two brothers when his father formed his own helicopter business, Hosking Exploration Helicopters. After attending Bountiful schools, playing football, taking turns with his brothers flying on trips with his father and marrying his high school sweetheart. Rolayne, Hosking decided to stay in the helicopter business. Ive always felt there was a need to train helicopter pilots and I wanted to stay in flying without leaving my family. Hosking said. So last January Hosking opened the Wasatch Helicopter Training Center at the Skypark Airport in Woods Cross. The center has enrolled nine students since January 1, with Hoskings brother Craig providing instruction in the Hughes 300C helicopter. Who would want to learn the skill of maneuvering, hovering and flying the aircraft with precision by pressing on two separate tail rotor pedals with the feet, lifting and lowering the collective with the left hand while holding steady a cyclic stick with the right hand? Perhaps the same one who would enjoy riding a bicycle with loose handle bars and a broken chain. Actually, those who take the training are ordinary people and, Hosking said, some of them are doctors and lawyers wanting another type of vehicle or just a toy. Ranchers learn to fly helicopters to herd animals and land developers are becoming interested in flying to survey their property. Three months after the i ; break- up of the Bell System.
