HATCH Review Sports Editor The Viewmont Vikings opened the girls basketball tournament with a gutsy performance March 5 against Alta, probably the second toughest team in the state, and Viking coach Vi Hillman knew her team was prepared for the tournament. The diminutive Vikings played Alta as tough as anyone, except Highland, which beat the Hawks in a close game Friday. 4--A March 7 Viewmont coasted but fell vicpast Olympus tim in the third round of the 6 to Hillcrest Fritourney 55-4- 9, 46-5- day. tough loss for the Vikings, not only because it ended their season, but also because the officiating frustrated Viewmont. Its very hard playing the team who was the state champion the year before, said Viewmont coach Vi Hillman. Before the game one of my concerns was that the referees might subconsciously protect Hillcrest because of their tournament success the past few years. Of course you can never blame a game totally on the refs, but when we took the ball inside, wed get hammered and not get the call, Ms. Hillman added. coach couldnt have more praise for a team after a loss A The Hillcrest game was a State Vikings. I thought we played an excellent tournament. Ive had a lot of comments on the determination our girls played with, especially against Alta. I think we hustled 110 percent the first two games of the tournament, tonight we were so tired, we probably were only at 75 percent, Ms. Hillman added. Hillcrest jumped to an early 8 lead, and although the Vikings came within three points at one time, Viewmont could never gain the scoring advantage. Junior forward Heidi Husbands led Viewmont scoring with 15 points. 17-- Swim Meet 4-- A GET SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR FUTURE than Ms. Hillman had for her Take a look at the Air Force. For the girls the high team finisher in the Davis County area was Viewmont, which captured the 10th spot with 60 team points. This was a good showing for us, said Woods Cross coach Dan Maroney. All four schools who finished ahead of us have their own school pools. Its quite an accomplishment for these kids, who can get only lf to two hours of one and pool time per day, to finish just below kids who swim three and to four hours each day, Maroney added.
