Following a theme of "Quilting Time, dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 705 23rd St., Logistics Group Awarded HILL AIR FORCE BASE -The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award was recently presented to the 2849th Air Base Group at Hill AFB by Gen. James P. Mullins, commander, Air Force Logistics Command. The award was for exception- - ally meritorious service from Jan.l through Dec. 3l 1982. It was the second such award for the unit, which earned the first one for service from Jan.l through Dec. 31, 1976. Hill AFB. It also maintained a reputation for providing leadership and service throughout the base, surrounding communities and the Air Force in general when support was given to visits by President Ronald Reagan and Secretary of Defense Caspar , Weinberger. Continually faced with austere funding and diminishing personnel resources, a vigorous pro-- ; to gram was maintained preserve monies, man power and equipment. Organizational elements contributing to the award were Comptroller, Personnel Division, Administration Division, Vehicle Transportation Division, Base Operations and Training Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division, Base Service Division, Base Plans and Disaster Preparedness Division, Chaplain, Public Affairs Office, Civil Engineering Squadron, Se curity Police Squadron and headquarters Squadron. Examples of achievements during the period included: Civil engineering received the General Thomas D. White Unit Award for environmental program . , , : - , I qual-Mt- : ity Award for resource conserva- ex- day-to-d- tion, recycling and hazardous waste management, and for setting a standard of excellent for cooperation with state and local authorities in environmental management. Civil engineering was the key player in a program to improve the appearance, architectural compatibility and environment p of the base through and other inexpensive labor. With the work done instead of by contract, more than $431,000 or about 55 percent of the cost was saved. The Vehicle Transportation Division developed a program to encourage units to upgrade their vehicles, and save taxpayers money" by consolidating and improving plant facilities. The Security Police Squadron was named the Air Force Logistics Commands Outstanding Security Police Squadron (Small Unit) and then went on to earn the Air Forces Outstanding Security Police Small Unit Award. The Personnel Division was specifically cited by the Tactical Air Command for outstanding efforts in mobility processing during operational readiness inspections of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing and 419th Tactical Fighter Wing.i Customer Service received high marks on its management customer service and support, receiving the Air Force Accounting and Finance Superior Performance Award. It also visited local Air Force R.O.T.C. detachments to inform them of their entitlements. Its members were instrumental in forming a base chapter of the American Society Comptrollers. Ogden.
