Sylvia Call, a teacher at Layton Elementary, has been bringing her students to the Johnson home since 1977, They love it, she said. And they never tell about the secret things from year to year for the ones who havent been here. Davis County assistant superintendent of schools, Gayle Stevenson, accompanied Mrs. Calls class on an anniversary tour last week. A representative of each class that has visited the home was on hand for the special tour. As the tour ends all are treated to home grown cantaloup and watermelon in the shade of the apple tree. Mary Ellen Dibble said that she reality liked to see the war things again. Corey Anderson liked everything in the house, and all the old stuff best and the peanuts drew good reviews from at least a dozen of the children. Christina Davis was especially fond of a new friend she found at the end of the tour, fuzzy cater pillar, which she planned to take home. She wasnt too certain whether or not her family would appreciate it as much as she did. Possibly one of the brightest faces in the group belongs to Johnson as he watches the childrens amazement over many of his plants and relics. He treasurers and displays many of the thank you and Christmas cards he has received from his young friends over the years and can often say to a child that is on a return visit, do you remember the year you sent me this card? With 30 little hands waving good bye and countless thank yous ringing through the fall air, another tour is ended and Johnson goes inside to put things away, and to get ready for another tour another day. Even for all of the work involved in setting it all up and making the permanent displays, it is obvious that it has become, for Dean Johnson, a labor of love. .
