Show EARTH GULPS DOWN TRACK E hundred foot section of erie railroad swallowed oil city pa A seemingly bottom less pit has been discovered between and co warren county on the new cut off ot the erie railroad low grade it was not dincov ered until feet of railroad track had been swallowed up in a night superintendent john braff who has charge of the work along the erie tern says it beats anything in his long experience as a railroader strangely enough this great sink hole is not visible to the eye and un til the railroad was built across it the earth was apparently as solid as could be desired mr braff said he believed that at one time the section was cov ered by a lake in the course of time it is thought a crust of six or seven feet formed on top of this lake but below that tor a great distance seems to be nothing but mud and water and the trunks of great trees the engineers will persevere in at tempting to lay a track across this bidden swamp |
