the taconi smelter assays showed its value to be 25 the smelters refused to buy because the men could not bitely account for themselves later a boy appeared at the smelter etith a sack containing similar ore this also was refused when quest boned the boy hastily departed tha smelter officials are inclined to believe the ore is a portion of large amounts recently stolen at goldfield nevada mining men in the boise basin are making loud complaints about people tal ing aimbez claims upon mineral land and the state filing on the same class in order to take such land an affidavit must be made towing that the land does not contain valuable minerals the past week marked the starting of ore shipments from the big por phyra deposit of the boston consoli dated tor the treatment of which there has been expended no less chaa 2 it a ted tonnage is be ing forwarded to the garfield concen however the production of spelter crude metallic zinc in the united states in 1906 was 2247 0 short tons this production which includes 25 tons of spelter obtained from the smelting of foreign ores shows an increase inci ease of 20 tons or 10 3 pr cent over that of the preceding year malteur malheur oil development company which has been drilling for oil about 16 miles west of vale ore has struck a fine volume of oil it is mixed aitu water and pours out at the top of the well in a tig stream the
