For members of the New Century Club it will be their 50th presentation to the community. with Beginning the organization of the club in 1933-3- 4 with Frances Taylor as president, members have presented an entertaining their partners the American Square Dance. The Brigham Young University folk dancers present traditional American dances in their show. Cowboys swing in fast-movin- g e were fashion shows. Members of the club made the clothing which was modeled by members and their children. As the shows continued the clothing made by members was supplemented with outfits from stores such as Price Trading the program to the community each year. After expenses, proceeds from the programs have been used to fund charitable projects. Both the programs and the projects funded by them have programs early Co. and J.C. Penney. Later there were talent programs in which club members performed. During the last few years, groups from outside the area such as the BYU Folk have been sponDancers sored. Funds derived from the programs have gone to support the March of Dimes, to buy a piano for a public building, to sponsor a girl for Girls State, and other projects. During the time when the late Ann Self, who was a founder of the Ann Self School, was club president, many of the New Century funds went to aid the new school. Later the Ann Self School became a part of the Carbon County School Leslie Tolley, Diana Carlson, Arva Smith and Anna Lee District. Among their dances will be the popular clogging which originated in the southeastern United States. Included will be the Tennessee Clog, the Smokey Mountain Clog and others. The group has folk dances from a dozen countries in their repertoire. Tickets are available from Tolmans in Price and Castle Dale; Dans Pharmacy in Price and Frannys Barber Shop in Helper and from club members. The New Century Club has to donated scholarships College of Eastern Utah, bought hair dryers for the swimming pool and books for the public library for kindergarten through the third grade readers. This year some of the money will go to the Sterling Scholar program. Committee chairwoman this year is Helen Black. She is being assisted by Karen Palmer, Lee Ann Taylor, students grades kindergarten through 12. The exhibit had previously been limited to Utah County students. This statew-idcompetition enable students to participate in a total art experience: Creating an art work, submitting it in a formal competition, plus the op will portunity of winning awards and having this work viewed by some 28,000 patrons who traditionally visit the Youth Art Exhibit as part of the annual Utah Pageant of the Arts production. Entries from each grade will be accepted April 2 through May 1 in the following mediums: Oils, water colors, crayon, pencil, acrylics pastel, or equivalent. Sculpture works will be accepted, however, no crafts are eligible for this competition. All paints must be mounted. savings bond will be to a sweepstakes presented winner from each grade at special ceremonies to be held June 9, in conjunction with the gala opening night of the 1984 Pageant season. The Youth Art Exhibit will continue through July 20, coinciding with the close of the Pageant run. Certificates will also be presented to all participants whose work is selected for hanging in the exhibit, according to Marcia Peterson, chairwoman. The directory inof music cludes the listings and theater dance, groups, museums and commercial galleries, festivals and celebrations, folk arts and literary arts categories, film and video, trade unions and community arts councils. Each directory entry includes the name, address and telephone number of each organization, contact persons and a description of the organizations function.
