Show DEATH CLAIMS SOREN NELSON on friday afternoon of last week a tow few minutes to 4 mrs airs tena tells nelson wife of soren if nelson pas passed sed to her rest after years ot of suffering from a tumor rupture and an affection of the heart beart altho a great stif bu mrs nelson continued tiles lifes activities until the first of the he present year when she was compelled to give up and since that time has been con confined lined to her home most of the time she was compelled to sit up in a chair a great deal of the time but the last few days she was unable to sit up and had to lie down painful though it was death came as a blessed relief to her and it also closed a life that was an inspiration to many who were acquainted wit with h the deceased because of 0 her wonderful ambition and perserver ance in the face of bodily handicaps of a most discouraging character mrs nelson was born bom at ephraim san pete peta county september 1857 she was a daughter of ot james 0 petersen and anna jensen petersen who were members of that III fated hand cart company of 1856 which was rescued by the party sent out by president young before their numbers were entirely wasted away by the hand of death sickness starvation and exposure along with the father and mother were six children all of whom suffered intensely with their parents and other members of the company as they struggled along the banks of the platte river with the snow a foot deep at one time this company burled buried 13 members in one grave which could not be dug very deep because of a lack of tools and the bodies had to be covered as best beat they could with the knowledge to the living abat that ere long the wolves would uncover and devour them when the subject of this sketch waz was one year old her parents moved to brigham city where they resided un nn TIT til 1861 when they moved to logan later deceased came back to brigham and made her home with mr and mrs james olsen kind and in 1872 was married to soren 11 nelson ten children were born to them five sons and fl file e daughters one son and one daughter have preceded their mother to the spirit world she was an active worker in the relief society of the ward in which she resided an honest woman full or of ambition and good cheer in all the years of her suffering she did not complain but always laughed and endeavored deavo red to bless others very impressive funeral services were held in the third ward chapel on monday afternoon bishop D P burt presiding ng eulogies were spoken by bishop D P burt elders james olsen J C jensen sister emma lee sister cecelia nelson adolph madsen A AM hansen president oleen N stoll and S norman lee the musical numbers rendered by the choir were the hymns resting now count your blessings and sweet Is the peace between speakers mrs airs elfleda L jensen and miss bliss calffe lund sang a duette entitled tired the prayers were joffere by riders wilford reeder reader and J C Fre erickson there was a big at a profusion of flowers and a long cortege accompanied compa compan nied led the remains to the cemetery |
