They learned a lesson from the Scofield Mine disaster, she explained. The relatives there were paid a lump sum, and many times it was was hired to help spent and the relatives struggled to get by after that. As soon as Annie came to town, she assessed the needs of the individual families. Each was studied to deter- mine immediate needs, income potential, abilities and many other factors. Instead of giving the money to the mother for the operation, Annie picked up the child and took her to the hospital for surgery, then delivered her home again after. Another family was determined to be in need of new underwear. Annie picked up the kids, took them to the store where the much needed items were purchased, and they were then delivered home again. Annie met and overcame many obstacles, but Nancy said one obstacle confused her when she read about it. Walter Kirby and his son, Joseph, were both killed in the mine. When Annie visited Walters widow, Hannah, she was told Walter and Joseph were not killed in the mine. Instead, Hannah said they died in a hunting accident. Nancy said the mens bodies are located on the official map showing the location of each body and rescuers reported removing the two men from the mine. 79 1 10 lbs. s Compare Quality and Price mchivauzt with the "Big Stores"!
