Tripp, consulting petroleum geologist, will speak to the Utah Geological Association on Monday, May 20, about an oil and gas exploration model for the Wasatch Plateau and Castle Valley areas of east central Utah. During the boom of the early 1980s, many small operators drilled successful wells in east central Utah, but a depressed gas market in the prevented them from capitalizing on their discoveries. However, the wealth of data generated by these mid-198- 0s Rod Belnap X wells has enabled geologists to incorporate subsurface, surface, structural and stratigraphic data into a hydrocarbon exploration model for the Wasatch Plateau and Castle Valley areas. J Tripp will speak at the regular UGA luncheon meeting a at noon at the 2960 Restaurant, Highland r-'- i x Chuck-A-Ram- Drive, Salt Lake City. Reservations can be made with Jo return Miller, Utah Geological Survey, before 10 a.m. on Monday, May 20. Letters To The Editor (Continued from Page SB) activity is not surprising. During this relationship, we have dealt with several different individuals. As you find with any group of individuals, each one is somewhat different and the extremes can be like night and day. Our experience in dealing with the college has been almost as diversified as the individuals themselves. Let me assure you, however, the normal has been very positive and truly in the best interest of our business. This now brings me to the point I would like to make concerning relations between CEU and local commerce and business. I feel comfortable in stating that no one could assume that CEU is not a valuable and ever present positive entity in this community. It is also fair to say that an employer of this size could never assume that all of the individual employees could carry on day after day, year after year, without some error in judgment or mistakes. It should also hold true that local businesses should never assume all of the businesses in this area have conducted themselves in relations with the college in a manner that is always beneficial or in the colleges best interest. The real problem develops when attitudes fester and inconclusive generalities swell on either side of a relationship and bol ster stereotypes and an atmosphere that anything less than the best it can be in an imperfect world. off to those , My hat goes businesses who have spoken up recently about concerns over their relations in business with individuals at CEU. My hardiest appreciation goes out as well to CEITs President Michael Peterson and to Margaret Dayton who, as individuals, have inspired the development of progressive relations in the ever changing local climate. We are forging a relationship with CEU and local commerce to clear the air and promote a win, win situation. Not because all is bad, but because both sides are planning to be here for years to come and will always continue to rely on each other. Let us never become a society who blames the good of the whole for a few of the bad or, on the other hand, becomes too intolerant to listen to the problems and views of the individual. I for one live in Price, am proud of my familys heritage here and stand behind every individual who dares put themselves out to perform beyond mediocrity. Rise to excellence and help our area become a place to come and claim a stake. Not just pass through.
