Her high school accomplishments include being vice president of the Carbon High ' School Future Business Leaders of America, chair of the FBLA Service Committee, business manager and managing editor of the yearbook staff and a member of the National Honor Society. Crookston, daughter of Paul and Juanita Crookston, plans to major in education of space science and minor in vocal music. While at CHS, she won the Outstanding Journalism Award and first place in behavioral science in the CHS Science Fair. She received a Rotary scholarship to attend a world affairs seminar in Whitewater, Wise., and was CHS representative to the Utah Senate Youth Conference. Davis, daughter of Ray and Donna Davis, plans to major in corporate law and minor in business. She received several high school honors, including gymnastics state champion, math Sterling Scholar nominee and the U.S. Achievement Award, and attended Utah Girls State. Rojas got letters from them and Emery County Sheriff Lamar Guymon stating support for the program. In August of 1986, Rojas had not heard anything more about his idea being put into action so he gathered the letters and wrote to Patricia Preston, Mountain Fuel personal services. He explained his idea and said, We at Mountain Fuel can say we join the rest of the country in saying We are damn sick and tired of being scared to walk our own streets or let go of our childrens hands in a public place, and we are doing something about it. After receiving the letters, Mountain Fuel representatives realized people wanted to see the idea put into action. On Tuesday, March 8, 1989 the Mountain Fuel company kicked off a pilot program of the McGruffTruck in the Carbon and Emery County areas. Since that time, the McGruff Truck Program has spread throughout Utah on Mountain Fuel supply trucks. It has been picked up by Utah US West Direct phone company. There have also been 26 states looking into the prog- ram. You can see McGruff truck stickers on almost every block in Salt Lake City," Rajas said. Its so satisfying to see the McGruff trucks rolling in front of you." Mountain Fuel has always had a policy to help anyone in trouble. Now it is more visible to kids," Rojas added. Mountain Fuel is not just a utility company It's made up of families people who want to do all they can to help prevent crime." Grogan, daughter of Douglas and Peggy Grogan, plans to major in secondary education, specifically English, and minor in mathematics. She was awarded first place in several yvriting competitions, including the Red Ribbon Week Writing Contest, all levels of the PTA Reflections Contest and the Young Writers Workshop in poetry. She also received the NOTE Achievement Award in writing and was the CHS Sterling Scholar nominee in English. National Honor Society president, CHS FBLA president and yearbook copy editor. Lemon, daughter of Jerry and Kathryn Lemon," plans to major in elementary education. She will graduate as Valedictorian from East Carbon High School and also received received the School Board award for works published and excellence in poetry and obtained thi highest score earned by a CHS student on the Senate Youth Program test. Siggard, daughter of Derral and Janice Siggard, will graduate at the top of her CHS class with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She has also received several honors for her musical abilities, including the Music Sterling Scholar award, all levels of the PTA Reflections in music and Band and All State Jazz Band honors.
