Show Tuesday, December 6, 1988 Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 7 A New publication highlights all29 Utah counties The Utah 1988 State Historical issue of Beehive Societys History contains historical summaries of each of the states historical society publications and tours. Each issue of the Utah counties. The summaries are written by staff of the Utah State Historical Society and others and include photographs from each county. The initiative to produce this issue came from the many requests to the society from around the state and country for such a volume. The issue will be of interest to students, travelers throughout the state and anyone interested in the history and development of Utah counties. Beehive History is provided to all members of the Utah State Historical Society, or can be purchased for $1.50. The special Utahs counties issue will be sent free to those who join as new members for 1989. Membership dues in the Utah State Historical Society are $15 for an individual or $10 for students and senior citizens over 65. Gift memberships are also available 29 Historical The California Trail, and the Hastings Cutoff, Stansburys Expedition to the Great Salt Lake, Little Berlin: Swiss Saints of the Logan Tenth Ward, and A Struggle for Survival and Identity: Families in the Aftermath of the Castle Gate Mine Disaster. Some of the books reviewed in the 1988 issues include: Dean May, A Peoples History of Utah; Linda Sillitoe and Allen D. Roberts, Salamander: The Story of the Mormon Forgery Murders; Stephen C. LeSueur, The 1838 Emigration, Quarterly contains over 100 pages of articles, historical photographs, book reviews and book notices on subjects relating to Utah history. A special effort is made to publish articles about all parts of the state on a wide range of historical topics. During 1988, articles in the quarterly appeared under such titles as: The Beginning of Modern Electric Power Service in Utah, Frederick Kesler, Utah Craftsman, Overland 1849-185- 0, War in Missouri; Barbara Allen, Homesteading the High Desert; Roy Webb, If We Had a Boat: Green River Explorers, Adventurers and Mormon Newell Runners; G. Brigham Young and the Expanding American Frontier; James A. Young and B. Abbott Sparks, Cattle in the Bringhurst, Cold Desert; and William M. Ferguson and Arthur H. Rohn, Anasazi Ruins of the Southwest in Color. Articles for scheduled publication in 1989 issues of the Utah Historical Quarterly will cover such topics as World War I in Utah, the Salt Iake Theater, resorts around Utah Lake, bootlegging in Southeastern Utah, mink ranches, Reed Smoot, Jesse Knight, origins of the name of Tooele and Jewish settlements in Utah.
