strange attempt i man e lite edward newton who is engaged to be married to a well known young woman has received two threatening letters demanding that 1 his attentions to the young lady in ques tion sunday last oung Newton was accosted on the street by a strange young man and after gome conversa tion was to eat sone candy from a boi lie ale several pieces and immediately was taken violently the physicians pronounced it a case of arsenical po soang and barely saved newton s life the fact as to the poisoning was eup pressed until today when newton received another anonymous letter filled with abuse and stating that as the candy did not finish him they would get him yet unless he left town by tomorrow night the letter has been sent to 11 e postal authorities in spokane for investigation
