By CHUCK ZEHNDER Price olFfeirs ad- ministered by the Bureau of Land Management and has many planned recreation areas, this one is divided into different areas wthin itself. There are two major areas; the campground and picnic areas. Within the picnic area, on the right fork road, there are three smaller sites. The first picnic area one Price Canyon Recreation Areajs and in the the beautiful, tall pines. It has all the makings for a great spot for family fun... well-maintain- ed been closed much of the last year because of slides on the road. Now the roads are repaired and the Area open again. Many people of this area have traveled past the sign, just seven miles up the canyon from the Highway Patrols Peerless ' Checking Station at the mouth' of the canyon, but few have taken the time to visit this scenic spot. It is well worth the side trip for an afternoon picnic or, better yet, a two or three day car is the lower area. It is the shadiest erf the three areas and will accomodate about 50 people in a comes to in a group site. The second picnic area is the middle area, the smallest of the three picnic sites. It has open areas as well as shade and will accomodate about 25 picnickers. The largest area, the upper, is all open so affords the most sun. It also has facilities for a group of about 75 people. All three areas may be reserved from the BLM office From some of the open camping sites, campers can see for many miles across the top of the Bookcliff Mountains. Here in Price. The campground, up the left fork at the Recreation Area, has sites for 18 camps and there are no reservations required and no fees charged for camping.. Camp sites are strictly first come, first served. This is not a primitive area. There are toilets and running water at various locations in the Area. There are 32 fireplaces for campfires and cooking fires for those who want to have open fires. Parking is not a problem as there are 70 parking places provided in die Recreation Area. Forty picnic tables are located in the Area, 10 of them double size tables in the group areas. Price Canyon Recreation Area is beautiful, and in the tall has all the makings It pines. for a great spot for family fun, either picnicing or camping. Some people we have talked to over the years, have even camped during the week well-maintain- ed away from it all while maintaining a work schedule in the desert below. Take a drive up there this evening. The cool breezes less than 20 miles from Price often brings local residents up the canyon for a picnic- - repair. It is but is very narrow with pullout spots at stratigic places along the route. There are some spectacular vistas along the road, which parallels the canyon road below, but drivers must keep eyes on the road. The road winds and climbs quickly and steeply all three miles to the site. Many area residents have passed this sign many times and not taken the time to drive the three miles up to the campground in the Ponderosa pines. |
