Show 3 THE GREEN SHEET 11, 1988 Thursday, Aug. FROM PAGE ONE Planning Commission Reaches Impasse On Bennion Annexation Continued from page 1 provided to the area if it were to be annexed into Murray, a situation which would effectively landlock his property for any future development. Mayor McMillan pointed out, however, that sewer services for both the Taylorsville-BennioImprovement District and Murray City are currently under the jurisdiction of the Central Valley sewage treatment facility and would not be impacted in any way by a boundary change. n He would not speculate, however, on improvement district water policy or what motives Morrill may have had in making the statement to Worthlen water and sewer concerning services. Morrill, an attorney who is presently running for the Precinct 3 seat on the Granite Board of Education and who has been associated with the current Bennion incorporation drive, was unavailable for comment concerning Worthlens allegation. A spokesman at his law office said he would be out of town until after Aug. 15. Former Murray City sioner Clark Cushing said "annexation would be a disservice both to them and to the citizens of Murray," and claimed that absorbing that portion of the county into Murray "would create more problems that it solved." He pointed out that the annexation would exceed the "ideal" Murray envisioned in the citys master plan. Murray currently contains 9.63 square miles, with the south Bennion area in question containing .53 square miles. A second parcel north of which has previously come before the commission adds another .22 square miles for a total of 10.38 square miles - less than half a square mile in excess of that ideal, Raulston noted. TLC, on the other hand, felt UTA was "disloyal" to the tax protest movement because it could not fully support the tax rollback and tuition credit initiatives. The UTA newsletter stated, "Because of TLCs insistence on proposing more than one tax limitation petition, and the sometimes questionable methods used by the group, the Taxpayers Assn, has kept an arms length relationship with the TLC. UTA, he explained, is in full support of the property tax initiative entitled "The Peoples Tax and Spending Limitation Amendment" but does not have a position on the tax rollback or the tuition tax credit measure. "We are concerned that with three measures on the ballot, voters will be confused and the votes of the moderates will be split among the three. This is why we are trying to convince the timid and unsure to at least vote yes on this one. This, combined with the conservatives who vote yes on all three, will ensure that at least one measure is successful in November," Olson said. While UTAs support of the spending limitation initiative may appear to put that organization solidly in the camp of tax initiative a supporters perception which may have a "spill over affect on the outcome the other two tax measures this fall from a businessmans point of view it has not always been a bed of roses between UTA and the Tax Limitation Coalition. TLC, which circulated the original petitions to slash Utah taxes, refused to allow the UTA to collect petition signatures, according to a report in the June issue of The Utah Taxpayer, UTAs monthly newsletter. The clash between the two groups grew out of a difference in opinion concerning how many petitions should be on the ballot. UTA supported the property tax and spending limitation amendment, but argued that to place more than one measure on the ballot would ensure defeat for all -- - THANK YOU would like to thank you for participatMuch o ing In our voluntary pay program. our carrier's wage comas from your paywe hope you ment, and If they do a good ob reward them.
