Show 7C Beautification Success Story Told To Chamber WEST VALLEY. A report on beautification efforts in West Valley City was a highlight of last weeks monthly meeting of the West Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. Parks planner Conley Thompson told the chamber about recent successes achieved in the city as a result of cooperation between public and private organizations. One such success, he said, was West Valley's second place finish this month in the statewide Tidy Town competition, an annual con- test which emphasizes According to Joanie Perry of the citys business license department, the Metro Business Park is not only a visual success, it is becoming an economic success as good Wall Street types, businesses, seem to by occupying the park at a rapid rate. Lookin Thompson cited the Good cleanup campaign of last spring as an excellent example of e efforts to beautify the city. The cleanup involved the city, the chamber of commerce, elementary schools, Reliable Waste, and, of course, city residents. Thompson expects the cleanup will become an annual event and expressed hope that a public-privat- civic fall cleanup could be conducted. Thompson praised the chamber of commerce for its beautification awards frequent for both residential and commercial properties. He acknowledged that some fine tuning will be needed in the landscaping ordinance as a result of opposition by developers to tree and shrub requirements. Although Thompson said that most commercial developers consider landscaping a big asset in selling or leasing Utah New parks and the redevelopment of blighted commercial spaces will improve the citys image, said Thompson. He observed that a tree-lineboulevard is under consideration and has been greeted with enthusiasm by members of the city council. Recently, Thompson told Utah d nurseryman Lee Mitchell, t of the American Association of Nurserymen, and others on a tour of the city.
