Utah is represented by over 24 teams at the Class Four level and the competition is extremely tough. Several of the smaller programs only compete at the Class Four level, noted Starr, and that level is their pride and joy and the kids are good. Class Four is the beginning level of team competion as defined by the United State Gymnfastics Federation, the governing body of gymnastics in the U.S. The gymnasts will range in age from nine to and length of experience in the sport will vary from 10 months to four years. Thy gymnasts will compete on all four womens events vaulting, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The state championship Little League team from Taylorsville competed in the Western Regional Championships in San Bernadino, California this past week, with Dave Gray and John Pezely coaching the crew to a record. Taylorsville defeated Alaska Montana and Idaho Oregon losing only to New Mexico and the eventual champions from Southern California Taylorsville placed sixth out of over 1,600 teams, playing and winning the most games in the tournament. Top team hitters were Brad Parker, Matt Rex, Tony Pezely and Lee Weatherhead. Parker and Rex came through the tournament with excellent hitting records as they were the only two players, out of the squad, to get a hit in every game.
