The doors to her creation were first opened in the Auerbach department store. Later Beeley convinced Granite School District and the county ecreation department to make the outmoded junior high physical plant shop into a craft house. Since then the craft house has been located at 3271 So. 500 East. ().: The term to the family refers members of the chemically dependent individual. The idea behind it is that when one member of a family develops chemical dependency, the whole family develops a variety of behaviors to compensate. And by so doing, they inadvertently not only allow the problem to continue, but actually foster its development. According to the Winter 1987 issue of the McKav-De- e Hospital Center "Scanner. the following information on chemical dependency and codependency offers some insight into the problem. marks the lives of the addict's family members with characteristics that are destructive to and to relationships. Some of the characteristics of codependency include: Has an overdeveloped sense of responsibility. Feels isolated from and afraid of people especially authority figures. Lies when it would be just as easy to tell the truth. Has become an approval seeker and has lost all identity in the process. Takes himself too seriously. Lives from the viewpoint of victim and is attracted in relationships to that same weakness. Judges' himself harshly and has self-estee- low self-estee- Has dependent personality and is terrified of abandonment. Over-react- s to changes over which he has no control. Has guilt when he stands up for himself. Confuses love with pity. Is extremely loyal, even is not deserved. if loyalty -- If often addicted to excitement. Is a reactor instead of an actor. Nearly every addict or alcoholic has an enabler. The enabler is usually a loved one who wants to help, but whose behavior encourages rather than discourages the addiction. It has been estimated that there are about 28 million children of alcoholics or chemically dependent families in this country. What that amounts to is that about one in every three families has someone in their family who abuses alcohol or drugs. Here in Utah, there are an estimated 24.800 families who are affected by severe levels of chemical dependency by one or more family members. And unless some direct actions are taken to increase the awareness of the problem and to intervene before life threatening situations cause damage, the problems are going to continue to escalate.
