Show THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, April 16, 1987 Alice Murphy Celebrates On Eightieth Birthday The family of Alice Murphy is hosting an open house in honor of her 80th birthday. The occasion will be celebrated on April 18th at the Lakeridge 4th ward, 3152 So. 7700 West, from 2 until 6p.m. The fiftieth wedding anniversary of Bob and Phyllis Gulbransen was celebrated on April 10th. The two were married on April 10th in 1937 with the ceremony performed by Mr. Gunderson, a blacksmith of Holladay. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Alice was born April 28, 1907, to Rupert E. Lee and Sarah McGuire, in Murray, Utah. She was the eldest of six children. Alices father was a school teacher and this caused them to move to different areas of Arizona, New Mexico and California during her early life. She worked as a typesetter for one year in California before returning to Provo in 1926. Phyllis and Bob became the parents of four daughters. They are: Danna Jo Kruse of Kansas City, Kansas; Rebecca (Mrs. Michael) James of Alexandria, VA; Jeanine (Mrs. Mont K.) Jensen of Payson and Shelley (Mrs. Clinton) Frohm, of Murray. In 1927, Alice married Arthur Morris Barney. They had one child and were later divorced. They have 15 grandchildren and one The Depression years were very difficult for Alice and she worked both as a butter wrapper and in the State Hospital in Provo to support her small child. In July 1936 she married Lawrence Murphy and the two moved to Unitah Basin. Her honeymoon was spent establishing her place in a home that already had three children. In 1946, Lawrence and Alice moved to California and then, in 1963, returned to Magna where she has lived since. Mr. Murphy died in 1985. Alice is active in the LDS church and is as active as her age and health will allow. She shares what she has and has been a good example to her six children. great-grandchil- Bob has been a painting and wallcovering specialist all his adult life and has shared his abilities with this talent with friends and business associates. They were married in 1962 in a His hobbies include oil painting, fishing and spending time at their cabin in Heber City. Phyllis has excelled in many facets of her life. She served as Executive Secretary for the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Dept, of the University of Utah until her retirement. She sang with groups and choruses, plus solo work in both the church and community and now spends much time in ceramics, oil painting and giving classes to share her talent with others. They are active in both church and civic activities and have given a legacy of song and art to their children, spouses, grandchildren and others their lives have gEety. His farewell meeting will be held on Sunday, April 19th, in the West Jordan 34th ward, at 1 : 00 p.m. in the chapel located at 8900 South 1300 West, West Jordan. The family will greet friends at their home following the meeting. Keith has just completed a highly successful year as State Future Farmers of America president, where he has represented over 3,500 FFA members from 57 high schools across the State. The future missionary was the FFA Chapter on the high school level when he was a student at West Jordan high. He graduated from there in June of 1986 and while there was also active in athletic programs. He then became a student at Utah State University. He is a grandson of Earl and Tekla Walk of West Valley City and of the late Edmund and LaRea McDougal who lived in West Valley City.
