Parent-teache- r consultations will be held today and parents visiting teachers are being invited to browse and shop while at the school, said PTA president Mary Ellen Strong. Persons in the community were invited to rent a table for $2 and may sell handmade items and keep the proceeds, she explained. Funds from table rentals will be used to purchase Christmas treats for the students. There will be no commercial items sold, she added. Children will be excused from school today because of the conferences. The bazaar will be held from 9 a m. to 8 p m. today and from 9 am. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. Students will eat a picnic lunch in their classrooms tomorrow so the bazaar may continue in the lunch1 room area, said Mrs. Strong. Items being offered will include crocheted and knitted goods, wooden gift items, bears, doilies, wind multi-purpos- chimes, broom aprons, sewing baskets and many others, she said Children will also be able to shop for a variety of small items they can use to give family and friends for Christmas, including plant partners, key chains, pencils and other small items. Winners have been announced in a literary scavenger hunt held at Bennion junior high. The purpose of the project was to encourage students to develop more interest m books and reading, particularly in the area of classics and to learn how to do research, according to Toni Pray, media center coordinator. Students were given a list of 50 questions, answers to which could be found m books, including the classics, Newberry award winners and books chosen from teachers reading lists. Winners were selected on the basis of accuracy, completeness and punctuality. We were pleased with the amount of participation and interest the project generated among the students, and found it so successful we hope to make it a yearly event, said Mrs. Pray. First place (no errors) went to Cynthia Anderson, who was awarded $10. Winning the second place prize of $6 was Patricia Barney. Michelle Kitchen and Sherrie Wilson tied for third place and divided the prize of $4, plus candy. Receiving honorable mention and prizes of candy were Mike Farmer, Cathy Matheson, Ann Chadwick, Tammie Rector, Cindy Lew, Stephanie Holding, Jeff Arnold, Jeff Ward, Jon Barney, Brett Bertoch and Kellene Thompson. An art appreciation program is under way at the school, designed to encourage students to develop an appreciation for and interest in great works of art. Teacher Del Johnson has obtained prints of 115 famous paintings. Students made eight frames and pictures are on display in various areas of the school. The prints have been laminated and will be changed monthly, offering students an opportunity to become acquainted with some of the world's greatest art, a school spokesman said.
