The most important outing in the brief history of the school looms for Taylorsville high gridders today (Thursday). A 1 p.m. kickoff has been set for the home field encounter with Binghams Miners. If the Warriors win, they are in the state playoffs -if they lose, it could open an interesting can of worms. Bingham has the same motivation. A victory means the playoffs. A loss will muddy the waters. Bingham has been on a roll and, like the Warriors, comes off a big win over Brighton. Taylorsville must overcome the effects of a layoff. But they have been productive days in terms of gearing up an attack for Bingham, says Coach Doug Bills. Darren Evans will quarterback. Just about everyone is healthy. Bingham and Brighton both escaped with victories over West Jordan and they played Alta and Hillcrest close. Taylorsville defeated Kearns in two games Monday to solidify its hold on fourth place in the Region Two volleyball standings. Lisa Dali was named MVP for Taylorsville in the 15-- 15-- victory, while Nicole Fife was MVP for the 4 7, junior-varsity- 's loss to Kearns. The junior varsity squad has been a bright spot for Kearns, losing only one match this season. Kearns dropped another match last week to West Jordan, Tawna Loveday was named MVP for the Cougars in that match. Taylorsville faces Alta today (Thursday) and will close out the season on consecutive Tuesdays against West Jordan and Hillcrest. 11-1- MURRAY CYCLERY, season. The Bucs will likely know part of their fate before they take the field. If Granite beats Cottonwood, then the three would tie for fourth place even if Cyprus were to lose. If Cottonwood wins, Cyprus must win or be eliminated. In the event of a tie, a meeting Friday morning will determine seeding and location for a playoff among the three, probably Tuesday at Granger. Cyprus continued to wax strong 13-1- WE Granger GRANGER. A 25-- 0 Gremlin victory over Viewmont highlighted Granger Ute Conference football action during the week. Wide Jones and Travis Colledge led the offense with two touchdowns apiece. Ryan Leiter added the team's only extra point. Justin Williams and Ryan Huff were also cited for good offensive performances. Mike Brantner was the defensive star of the day with two fumble recoveries. Ronald Vincent, Brock Williams, Daniel Terry and DeRaymus Johnson also played well for the defense. The Peewee A squad slipped by Viewon touchdown's by Shawn mont 12-Peterson and Ryan Palmer. Travis Crowther, Danny Leatljerwood,- - Shewn Clay and Chris Foote were cited for their offensive performances. Terry Morley, Lance Roberts, Kelly Chad Kilgore, Payne and Callin Lindsay played well defensively. The Midget A squad scored a 13 0 shutout over Viewmont on touchdown runs by Brook Bower and Darryl Martinez. Danny Childs starred defensively for the A team. Shane Trujillo, Don Pennington, Carl Pyper, Robby Biael, Billy Thurman, Kelly Nash, Jason Jackson, Todd Johnson, Dennis Almond and Ryan Lowther were cited for their fine overall play. The Mitey Mites fell to Viewmont despite the fine offensive play of Jack Ballard, Terry Cummings and Scott Taylor. The Mites were led on defense by Bradfield, Brett Judd, Galen Craig Sismerso, Kime Kinikini and Jimmy Cottrell. Kearns KEARNS. A victory over Cyprus by the Mitey Mites highlighted Kearns Ute Conference football action during the week. 26-2- 0 Roger Griffiths led the team with two touchdowns, while Thad Jensen and Brad Warner pitched in with one touchdown each. Brian Larson threw one touchdown pass to Warner. Shane Bailey, Brian Veazie, Chad Ruiz, Leroy Vea, J. L. Duckworth, Aaron Poulson and Matt were cited for fine defensive play. Poulson and Veazie also had good defensive games for the Mitey Mites. The Gremlins fell to Cottonwood 26 12, while four Kearns teams dropped lopsided decisions to Cyprus. The Peewees were shut out 47 0, the Midgets were blanked 36 0, the Bantams lost 32 6 and the Juniors dropped a 32 14 decision. Olympus Falls, Three Way Tie In Region 3 15-1- Joe Darger scored two touchdowns for the Juniors, while Jason Darrow and Robbie Stoner added one apiece. Chuck Taylor, Mike Davis and Lance Mackay had good days in the offensive line. Matt Bates, Gene Bybee and Chris Aiello were cited for good defensive play. on a The Midget B team beat Tooele Scotty Roberts touchdown off a fake reverse. Roberts also scored the extra point for the B team. The coach cited the entire team for exceptional play. The Peewee A team defeated Hillcrest on touchdowns by quarterback Clint Davis. Matt Bingham, Jason Haislip and Chris King had good games blocking for the team, while Aaron Lightfoot, Stan Clark, Tupou Hola and Jeft Ashby led the defense. The Mitey Mites racked up 271 yards of defeat of Hillcrest. Nic offense in a DeLuca ran for 181 yards and scored all four touchdowns. Mark Colby, Dave Maynes, Mike Gleed, Randy Collins and Dusty Shepard had good games on the offensive line, opening huge holes for DeLuca all day. Nick Zupo, Brent Hutto and Troy Carsey added extra points for the Mites. The Peewee B team was shut out by Alta despite good offensive efforts of Monte Casper, Jared Tibbitts and Chance Haider. Brandon Heck and Ricky Devey had outstanding games on defense. The Midget A team lost to Hillcrest 23 6 despite fine individual efforts by Chris Snelton and Ryan Coates. The Bantam A team lost to Hillcrest Tod Egelund scored the team's only touchdown while Bill Bambrough played well defensively. The Bantam B team lost a tough one to Brighton 15 6 despite a touchdown by BobGremlins were shut out by by Bess. The Hillcrest . ARE BICYCLES AND SEAVICE defensively Friday, but encountered an equally stubborn defense in Skyline, which prevailed for a 0 victory. The Eagles capitalized on a short punt and a big play to get all the points they would need with three minutes left in the first period. Mark Raglund escaped from the backfield after an inspired Buc defense had sacked the Eagle quarterback on the previous play. Raglund rambled 29 lead yards for the score and a after the PAT. Skyline Defense Prevails Over Pirates y KEARNS. Can the Kearns high Cougars do it again? Last season the Cougars avoided an season by handing West Jordan a setback in the season finale. Today (Thursday) they have a chance to make history repeat itself. Kearns was defeated by Region Two champ Hillcrest Thursday. The Huskies, easily one of the top three teams in the state, struck quickly for the victory and kept the pressure dan handles Kearns, there is a three-wa- y tie for the fourth playoff berth, while Bingham takes third. In the event of that tie, Taylorsville and West Jordan will square off for a half and the winner will meet Brighton for the berth. If it is a two-watie for fourth between Brighton and Taylorsville or Bingham, there will be a playoff Tuesday. No matter what, the winconner of the test is assured of a berth. The loser is out if Brighton beats Alta. The third place team from Region d Two will meet the loser of the game on the road at 3 p.m. Oct. 28. The fourth place team would meet the winner of that contest, also on the road. It wont be an easy draw, but there is no such thing in this years playoff system. While there are 16 teams, with the exception of the top three or four, it would appear that there is tremendous balance statewide, Bills said. But were taking them one at a time. Bring on Bingham.
