A pair of victories during the week left Cyprus just two games behind division leader Kearns in Valley American Legion action. And the Magna lads had a chance to gain ground when they played Kearns last night (Wednesday) after press time. Cyprus blanked hapless West Jordan Friday and on Monday came from behind 8-- 0 at Tooele to win 7-- The team did not play last Wednesday because of a scheduled game on July 5 with Granger as part of the Magna Independence Day celebration. Cyprus 7, Tooele 5 Tooele overcame a 4-- 1 Cyprus edge in the of the sixth after two men were out, scoring four runs. A pair of singles, a triple and a double put the home squad ahead. With Cyprus down Marty Jones tripled off the wall in center to bottom 5-- 4, score teammates Steve Bracken and Randy Anderson with the tying and winning runs and he trotted home with an insurance run on a fly ball. Anderson singled and Bracken doubled to open the seventh. Cyprus scored a solo run in the first on singles by Randy Wooley, Jones and Paul Coon. In the second, a double by Ron Hatch and base hits by Anderson and Wooley produced another run and in the sixth, Jones trotted home on a Coon single. Andy Hill picked up the mound win in relief of Wooley. Hill set Tooele down in the home half of the final frame. Cyprus 8, W.
