Show Final Nominees Are Revealed Thursday, Apr. 29, WEST VALIEY VIEW - 1982 Green Sheet Awards Are Due Wednesday by Michele Bartmess Cottonwood TAYLORSVILLE. Three musicals and a trio of nonmusical productions head up the final list of nominees for Green Sheet Performing Arts Awards. The awards, numbering nearly two dozen, will be announced and given to the winners during a ceremony Wednesday at 7:30 on the Taylorsville high stage. The ceremony will include production numbers from plays that were presented by the eight Green Sheet area schools. Kicking off the show will be an introductory number by emcee Ron a Granite high graduate and a former resident of West Valley who has performed at Lagoon and Pioneer Memorial Theatre on numerous occasions. He will be joined by Tamara Fowler, a Murrayite, who has been seen in many stage productions at BYU and throughout the Salt Lake n, area. The show is open to the public and there will be no charge for admission. Nominees for various awards have been named in the two previous issues of the Green Sheet. In addition, three special awards are planned. Nominees being revealed in this final edition prior to the presentation program are for Audience Appeal, Magic Moment, Direction and best musical and nonmusical productions. At Murray high a young lady in a g tiny role, that of a crony of Fanny Brices mother, captured the attention of the card-playin- judges. Marcia Peterson highly entertained by Cyndi Murphy and Troy Davis, along with the chorus in Anything You Can Do. Russell Johnson and Norm Wendel were directors. Best Nonmusical nine nonmusical productions offered this year brought forth the greatest degree of difficulty in reaching a Competition among decision. Cottonwood, which has won the award three of the four years it has been presented, captures yet January 16th. Show, Direction This years three nominees for Show of the Year, the best musical, also had their directors nominated for the direction award . Cottonwood's Joan Hahn was the director and the show was Bye Bye Birdie. It was a broad and colorful version without peaks and valleys. It started high and stayed there. In direct contrast, it was the stark-stage- d closing scene of Funny Girl at Murray that was breathtaking, through the direction of John Williams and a moving performance by Angie Price. Two scenes at Olympus were singled out for excellence by the panel. They included the dramatic graduation scene where Louise realizes her destiny and the scene following Billys death where Tara Rowe sang Youll Never Walk Alone. Hola has been elected student body president at Granite high. The new president is the younger brother of Saia Hola, who has served as Granite high student body vice president this year. Both of the Hola youths were running backs on the Granite football team. Both boys were named to the Green Sheet Honor Squad. The newly elected student body president also won first place in region in wrestling and third in state. He isa4.0student. The new vice president is Troy Watanabe. He is on the cross country and track teams and was a member of the senate this past year. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Watanabe are his parents. Student body secretary is Terry West daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. West. Miss West was junior class secretary and student body president at Central junior high. The senate president is Diana Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Reed. Miss Reed has been in the pep club and also has been associated with the Close-u- p program on a state and national level. She has also been selected to attend Girls State. Other senators are Barbara Anderson, Lynett Lehman, Sheri Davies, Chuck Baggett, Paula Cushing and Susana Silva. Newly selected cheerleaders at Granite high are Julie Van Wagenon, Jeanie Stapley, Sharon Furness, Elyse Wintch, Ron Hurst, Anthony Cruz, Phillip Simon and Mark Bricker. An assembly to announce the newly elected officers, senators and cheerleaders was held Friday. Outgoing student body officers decorated the stage. Outgoing student body president John Simmons was in charge of the arrangements. Working with him were Stephanie Pappas, Saia Hola, Kim Miller, Erma Forester, Cathie Margetts, LeAnn Gordon and Kathy Hansen. On Friday evening the PTSA sponsored a stomp to honor the newly elected. All PTSA members were admitted to the celebration free of charge.
