Show 4 With County - 5 Thursday, Jan. WEST VALLEY VIEW Student Council Considering Settlement On Bills WEST VALLEY. A settlement of a longstanding dispute with the county over three bills is expected to be approved tonight (Thursday) by the City Council here. The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the upstairs conference room in City Hall, 2470 So. Redwood Road. To avoid a potentially costly and lengthy court case between the two government entities, the council appeared satisfied with a compromise settlement hammered out in late December by county and city officials. The settlement in- volves three bills which the county claims the city owes it: $6,000 interest on which West Valley recently paid the county for a sanitation contract; $9,200 for the July, 1980 election; and a $15,000 payment for animal control. Both the sanitation and animal control matters involved services provided by the county on a contractual basis between July 1 and Dec. 31, 1980. Rather than taking the matter to court, ty and county officials agreed to a compromise suggested by former Commissioner Jerry Wagstaff that the entities split the disputed $30,200 in half, with West Valley money disin-corporati- paying the county $15,000. At Tuesdays study session, Police City power shortage also has cut down on the amount of compensatory time the officers may take off, thus causing morale problems, Campbell said. Chief David Campbell also asked the council to consider waiving the five percent budget cut imposed on his department (and all branches of city government) in City Financial December by the City Commission. Campbell said the reimbursement, which would amount to more than $125,000, was necessary to hire officers to fill vacancies in the department. The department currently has seven fewer policemen than last April (58 in total) and, as a result, officers are being asked to work Director Russ Sanderson, who recommend- ed the across-the-boar- d cutback to the departed commission, cautioned the council that all city departments have the same concerns as Campbell and warned that returning money to the police would set a precedent for other department heads to hours make similar additional because of a backlog of calls, the chief said.
