True 'Giving' 17, 1981 - Annette Young Becomes Magna Community Church Plans Charity Xmas Dinner During the Christmas season it has often been said that it is better to give than to receive. However in todays highly commercialized world there are many who have come to believe that Christmas is primarily for getting, and the giving confined only to their own. So in an attempt to combat this attitude, a group of Born Again Christians in the Magna Community Church will seek to put Christ back into Christmas by sharing their abundance with those less fortunate than they are through the true spirit of giving. And on Wednesday, Dec. 23rd, the doors of the little white church in the old part of town will swing wide for a community dinner for the disadvantaged. It will be entirely free of cost . . . financed by donations from the church family. The project is under the direction of Pam Kokonis, a pretty young mother of two, who said that the idea originated after the group read an article in a newspaper concerning hunger in Utah. It was then that it suddenly dawned on them that since there are so many low income people in Magna there must also be a lot of residents who are facing the prospects of a very meager Christmas . . . with many of their number possibly going hungry too. So they set up a committee to try to get some idea of how many peo- OlUMClt CftMcl B aQfo The double-rin- g wedding ceremony of Annette Young and Andy Lee Bailey, was held at the in the day time store, hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Pam Kokonis, and Jackie in the evenings Emman, 966-839- by LaRee Pehrson Pam Kokonis, left, and Nancy Ross busy making preparations for the Community Church's Christmas dinner which will be given entirely free of any charge to the needy of the area. Following the ceremony a reception was given at the same place. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brigham J. Young, Sandy, and is a graduate of Cottonwood high. Referring to a biblical passage from the Book of St. Matthew Chapter 25, Pam said that the Born Again Christians felt that the Bible quotation: Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of my brethren ye have done it unto me, applied to them. We know that we cannot really change the world, she said, but we can reach out to those around us and become a light in the midst of a dark world. And that is what we are trying to do. There may not be many people bewho respond, she added, cause this is the first time we have done anything like this, but it is a start.
